Design & Construction

Designed around a semi-displacement aluminium hull and superstructure she features a 8.84m beam and a 2.39m draft. The yacht is built over 4 decks with an internal volume of 399 GT (Gross Tonnes).

Exterior Design

Project Freedom is a 44m (144.4ft) explorer sportfish yacht that sits in a part of the market with very little direct competition. Developed by SES Yachts, the design blends the deck space and practical features of a large offshore sportfisher with the range, storage and comfort expected of a modern explorer yacht.

The project began as the Freedom 43 before growing to 44m (144.4ft) during development. The hull remains broad at 8.8m (28.9ft), with a displacement of around 290 tonnes and a volume of approximately 400GT. Built entirely in aluminium and classed to RINA standards, the yacht is designed for owners planning serious cruising rather than short hops between marinas.

The profile is defined by a tall bow, long runs of glazing and a stepped superstructure that falls away towards the stern. There are clear explorer yacht influences in the high freeboard and sheltered decks, but the open aft sections and elevated sightlines also draw heavily from the world of sportfishing boats. The result is a yacht that looks capable without becoming heavy or industrial.

What makes Project Freedom unusual is that the same hull can support three very different deck arrangements.

The Fisherman version is the most work-focused. A large open aft deck is left clear for tenders, fishing equipment and water toys, removing the need for a separate chase boat. Below, the beach club can be tailored around diving, fishing, storage, fitness equipment or additional guest spaces.

The Fisherman Enclosed version keeps the same open working deck but adds a fully enclosed upper-deck lounge with a day head and direct access to a crow's nest. This arrangement suits owners planning longer offshore passages or serious sportfishing programmes where weather protection and visibility become more important.

The Leisure version takes the yacht in a different direction. The open aft deck gives way to a swimming pool, tenders move into a side-loading garage, and the beach club is split between wellness and watersports areas. The overall feel becomes much closer to a traditional superyacht while retaining the same hull, engineering package and long-range capability.

General arrangement plans also indicate space on the foredeck that could support a helipad arrangement if requested by a future owner.

Interior Design

Too Design has approached Project Freedom from the perspective of long-term living rather than occasional holiday use. The emphasis is on practical space, straightforward movement between decks and the ability to support extended periods away from shore support.

The main deck centres around a large salon linked directly to a commercial-grade galley. Rather than hiding the galley in a secondary position, the design treats it as an important part of the yacht's cruising programme. For owners planning months aboard rather than weeks, provisioning, storage and food preparation become just as important as guest entertainment.

Forward on the same deck sits the owner's apartment. Plans show not only a large owner's cabin and bathroom, but also a dedicated office, a feature normally found on larger explorer yachts.

The upper deck introduces a second indoor social area in the form of a skylounge. Here, Too Design has included a bar, pantry and day head so the space can operate independently from the main deck below. In the Fisherman Enclosed version, this becomes a fully protected lounge that remains usable in poor weather or during long offshore passages.

The design also pays attention to comfort during extended cruising. Active fin stabilisers are specified for use both underway and at anchor, while published noise targets aim for low sound levels throughout guest spaces. The owner's suite, wheelhouse and dining areas are all targeted at around 52dB while cruising, figures more commonly associated with larger custom yachts.

Accommodation

Project Freedom accommodates up to 10 guests in five cabins as standard, although an alternative six-cabin arrangement is available for owners who need additional guest capacity.

The owner's suite occupies a prime position on the main deck and benefits from a private office, walk-in wardrobe and dedicated bathroom suite. This arrangement gives the owner a degree of separation from the guest accommodation below and reflects the yacht's explorer roots, where long periods aboard are expected rather than occasional weekends away.

Guest accommodation typically consists of two VIP cabins and two guest cabins on the lower deck. The layout remains largely unchanged across the Fisherman, Fisherman Enclosed and Leisure versions, allowing owners to choose their preferred deck arrangement without sacrificing accommodation.

Crew quarters are arranged for a captain and three crew members. For a yacht of this size, that is a relatively modest crew count and reflects the project's aim of remaining efficient to run despite its 44m length and global cruising capability.

Performance & Capabilities

Powered by twin Caterpillar (IMO Tier III with SCR systems) 2,400hp engines running at 2100rpm, motor yacht Project Freedom is capable of reaching a top speed of 22 knots, and comfortably cruises at 20 knots. With her 35,000 litre fuel tanks she has a maximum range of 4,000 nautical miles. Her semi-displacement hull design means she offers a great balance of space and speed.
