Design & Construction

Designed around a steel hull and a wood superstructure she features a 35' beam and a 16' draft. The yacht has an internal volume of 723 GT (Gross Tonnes).

The yacht was designed and constructed in compliance with the Lloyds Register technical standards.

Exterior Design

With her sharply raked bow, traditional rigging, and full sweep of teak decks, the 76m (249.3ft) Stad Amsterdam captures the spirit of a 19th-century clipper while functioning as a modern sailing vessel. The ship’s design was developed by Gerard Dijkstra, drawing inspiration from the mid-19th-century frigate Amsterdam. She is not a replica, but rather a reinterpretation - a fast, ocean-going clipper built with modern standards yet rooted in historical form. She sails with an authentic square rig across three towering masts, supporting 31 sails with a combined surface area of 2,200 square meters. The sail plan includes double topsails on the fore and main masts, a single topsail on the mizzen, royals on all masts, and a skysail crowning the main mast. This enables cruising speeds of up to 15 knots under sail alone.

Her upper deck stretches from bow to stern, made up of the forecastle, main deck, and aft deck, each with its own character. Guests move through beautifully maintained teak woodwork and traditional deck fittings, with every line and cleat in its proper place. The chart house stands proudly amidships, a nod to traditional navigation, while the outdoor bar creates a more relaxed space for refreshments and informal gatherings. Though faithful to classic sailing aesthetics, the ship is built with a modern steel hull and incorporates contemporary construction techniques beneath her period-correct styling.

With 31 sails, Stad Amsterdam moves like a true clipper under canvas.

Interior Design

Step below deck and the sense of history continues, framed by warm mahogany, polished brass, and careful wood detailing throughout. The central social space on board is the longroom, located on the middle deck. Reached by a broad mahogany staircase, this versatile saloon serves as the heart of life below deck - equally suited to relaxed conversation, quiet reading, or formal presentations. With a fully equipped bar, audiovisual facilities, and a small library, the longroom adapts easily between casual use and professional events. Up to 55 guests can be hosted here for a seated lunch or dinner.

While her design celebrates the past, the Stad Amsterdam quietly incorporates modern-day comforts. Air conditioning, satellite communications, and discreet technical features bring 21st-century hospitality to this traditional setting. The galley and service areas support a full hospitality team capable of delivering fine meals and deck service, often enjoyed alongside views of the rigging above.

Accommodation

Accommodation on board is arranged across 14 guest cabins located on the middle deck. Each cabin features a porthole, private bathroom with shower, sink, and toilet, and is finished in a classic maritime style with wood panelling and copper detailing. All cabins include air conditioning and a satellite-connected telephone. Though configured for two guests as standard, they can be adapted to sleep three or four if required. Each measures approximately 11 square meters (118 square feet) and shares a near-identical layout to maintain a consistent standard across the accommodation deck.

In addition to the guest cabins, the ship supports a full professional crew of 25 to manage both sailing operations and guest hospitality. Crew areas are separate and efficiently arranged to maintain comfort and privacy for all aboard.
