On Deck
The aft cockpit on this Eastbay 49 takes cues from sportfishing layouts, with protective bulwarks wrapping around the sides and stern. The bolt-on swim platform is generous in size and well suited to swimming, boarding, or casting a line. A transom door closes things off for peace of mind if you’ve got pets or small children aboard. There's a transom-mounted shower, fairleads, aft cleats, and a cable reel for shore power. In the cockpit, three substantial storage lockers hold everything from fenders to dive tanks, with easy access to tank fittings and an emergency bilge pump.
Side decks are wide, with practical soft enclosures that can be left in place for sun protection or zipped away to open things up. The foredeck is surprisingly large for this size of boat – big enough for loungers or a dining setup. You’ll also find dorade-style air scoops, a large opening hatch to the owner’s cabin, and a hydraulic window that lets fresh air funnel from bow to stern. Forward anchoring gear includes a single anchor with foot switches and remote control, a Maxwell windlass, wet stowage for spare anchors and dock lines, and access to the anchor locker via a hatch in the starboard storage bin.
Up on the helm deck, which acts as the upper cockpit, there’s shaded seating with a wide overhang and clear side panels that can be enclosed to turn it into a second salon. The setup includes a hi-lo table with potential for dining for up to six, generous storage in every seating base, a glove box-style chart table, overhead hatches, and side windows for ventilation. The layout is Great Loop-friendly with a 4.88m (16ft) clearance including the antenna, so low bridges are no problem. There’s even a side companion door, a helm station with a beautiful varnished wheel, and integrated breaker panels all within easy reach.
Deck hardware includes polished stainless rails and cleats, varnished teak caprails, non-skid walking surfaces, and davit receivers on the swim platform.
Interior Accommodation
Heading below through a traditional companionway, the Eastbay’s interior strikes a nostalgic tone, with rich wood joinery, updated upholstery, and a classic teak and holly sole running throughout. The saloon to starboard offers an L-shaped settee with storage beneath and an optional insert to create an extra berth or a cozy spot for movie nights. Opposite is a long sideboard that functions as an extension of the galley, with cabinet storage and room for a TV install, should you wish.
The galley itself is compact but thoughtfully laid out. It includes a three-burner electric stove with fold-up cover, full-size oven, microwave, dual stainless sinks, and substantial refrigeration. Storage includes deep corner lockers, upper and lower cabinets, drawers, and a clever bottle rack. A bar nook offers dedicated space for bottles and stemware. Ventilation is helped by an opening porthole above the cooktop.
Owner's Cabin
The forward owner’s cabin adopts a slightly unconventional V-berth layout that feels closer to a traditional sailboat. It’s spacious and flexible, with a removable center section allowing for either a double berth or two singles. Storage is generous, including a cedar-lined hanging locker, multiple drawers, and overhead cabinetry. There’s even a handy step or seating area built into the foot of the berth.
Ventilation is excellent, with a large hatch overhead, plus portholes. The ensuite bathroom includes a separate shower stall (roomy enough for one and a half people), Vacuflush head, sink, under-sink storage, and mirrored medicine cabinets. Natural ventilation is provided by another opening porthole.
Guest Accommodation
To port, the guest cabin features a single berth. There's a tall hanging locker, drawers, portholes, a fan, and more storage built into the outboard wall. This cabin is served by the day head opposite, which also functions as its private bathroom. The head is compact but includes a sink, wet shower arrangement, mirror, storage and good floor space.
Performance
Accessed via two deck hatches, the engine room houses twin Caterpillar 3196TA 660hp diesels, delivering a 20-knot cruise and 25-knot top speed, and a range of 2,000 nautical miles at a slower 9 knot speed. It’s a straight-shaft setup with sea strainers, Racor filters, a fire suppression system, and ample ventilation. A Northern Lights generator sits starboard in a sound shield, and batteries are easily reachable to port.
The engine space is tidy, with another hatch for light and air, and a cable reel visible to port. Mechanical systems remain in working order and have been professionally managed. The layout supports ease of service access and dry storage over time, with thoughtful upgrades like a standalone AC unit to prevent humidity and protect the woodwork while docked.
The modified deep-V hull with computer-designed lifting strakes gives the yacht a dry, stable ride, and her graceful sheer and bow flare are reminiscent of classic Maine-style lobster boats.
