Design & Construction

Designed around a displacement w/ bulbous bow steel hull and an aluminium superstructure she features a 7.43m beam and a 2.3m draft. The yacht is built over 3 decks with an internal volume of 244 GT (Gross Tonnes).

This was the first yacht built on the Darwin 102 design. Launched in September 2015 this yacht undertook sea trials over the following months. She was completed at Cantiere delle Marche's Cantiere delle Marche yard in Italy where she was commissioned and delivered to her owners in September 2015.

Exterior Design

The 31.1m (102ft) Cantiere delle Marche explorer yacht Acala was built for serious time at sea. Designed by Hydro Tec as the first hull in the Darwin Class 102 series, she combines the heavy-duty feel of a working expedition vessel with cleaner yacht styling across the upper decks.

Her steel hull carries high freeboard and a strong bow section shaped for offshore passages, while the aluminium superstructure softens the profile with dark glazing and cleaner lines above. The blue hull against the white superstructure gives Acala a sharp, purposeful look that suits the Darwin series well. Large windows break up the hull sides and bring more light into the guest spaces than many traditional explorer yachts in this size range.

The aft deck centres around a large dining table with seating for up to 12 guests, while wide walkways on both sides allow easy movement around the yacht. A refrigerator sits to port and stairs rise to the upper deck on the starboard side. Down at the stern, the hydraulic swim platform lowers to the water and has been widened to support diving operations and tender use more easily.

Acala was heavily customised around watersports and diving. The lazarette works as a full dive centre with a nitrox compressor, storage for dive gear, SeaBobs and equipment lockers for masks, fins and BCDs. The layout also includes shore power converters, a water maker and laundry equipment tucked neatly into the same area.

The upper deck extends the social spaces further with another outdoor dining area linked directly to the skylounge through full-height sliding glass doors. Aft, a VRC 4500 davit launches the custom 5m (16.4ft) Novurania diesel tender, which can draw fuel directly from the yacht’s main tanks.

Above, the sundeck focuses on open-air living with a jacuzzi surrounded by sunpads, shaded seating beneath the mast structure and a full barbecue setup complete with fridge and ice maker. The mast itself adds to Acala’s explorer profile, giving the yacht the purposeful stance expected from the Darwin range.

Interior Design

Inside, Acala balances the practical nature of an explorer yacht with a softer, more relaxed atmosphere built around long stays aboard. Large windows and sliding glass doors keep the guest spaces bright, while the layout places strong focus on flow between indoor and outdoor living areas.

The main saloon uses a simple, open arrangement with a large low-profile sofa, built-in cabinetry and a 55-inch pop-up television positioned opposite the seating area. Forward to port, a flexible dining or games table gives the room added versatility without crowding the space.

One of the strongest design points aboard Acala is the connection between the interior lounges and the exterior decks. Both the main saloon and upper skylounge use full-height sliding glass doors that tuck away almost completely, opening the rooms directly onto the aft deck seating areas.

The wheelhouse follows the same practical approach seen across the rest of the yacht. Forward-raked bridge windows improve sightlines from the helm, while four flat-panel displays and twin captain’s chairs create a clean, functional command centre suited to long-distance cruising.

Up on the bridge deck, the skylounge mirrors the relaxed style of the main saloon with another low-profile seating area and direct access to the upper aft deck dining space. The overall feel aboard stays understated and functional rather than decorative, which fits the yacht’s explorer role well.

Accommodation

Acala accommodates up to 12 guests across five en suite cabins arranged on the lower deck.

The owner’s cabin sits forward and slightly raised within the hull, giving the suite a more private feel. It includes a king-size bed, generous storage and a private en suite bathroom.

Aft of the master are two matching VIP cabins, each fitted with queen-size beds and their own en suite bathrooms. Midships, two further guest cabins use bunk and Pullman layouts, allowing each room to sleep up to three guests comfortably while still retaining private en suites.

The accommodation layout makes Acala particularly well suited to family cruising, dive expeditions or larger guest groups where flexible sleeping arrangements matter.

Crew accommodation supports up to seven crew members, including space for a dive master when needed. Crew cabins sit forward on the main deck and have separate circulation from the guest areas.

Performance & Capabilities

Powered by twin diesel Caterpillar (C18) 671hp engines, motor yacht Acala is capable of reaching a top speed of 13 knots, and comfortably cruises at 10 knots. With her 40,000 litre fuel tanks she has a maximum range of 4,500 nautical miles at 10 knots. She has been fitted with stabilizers to increase on-board comfort when the yacht is at anchor, particularly in rough waters.

Amenities

Air conditioning offers increased on-board comfort. The sundeck is the social hub of the yacht, with a deck jacuzzi for cooling off and an inviting spread of sunpads.
