More Details

The 36.58m motor yacht Anne S. Pierce was delivered to her owners in 1982 by Deep Sea Trawlers. Her naval architecture and exterior design comes from the drawing boards of Deep Sea Trawlers.

Key Features

  • Explorer yacht with robust steel hull
  • Spacious sundeck with modular furniture
  • Upper deck with large crane
  • 7,000 nautical mile range

Design & Construction

Designed around a full displacement ice class steel hull and superstructure she features a 7.82m beam and a 4.27m draft. The yacht has an internal volume of 374 GT (Gross Tonnes).

Exterior Design

Anne S. Pierce has one of the most unusual profiles in the explorer yacht world because beneath the yacht conversion sits the hull of a 37.8m (124ft) North Atlantic scallop dragger built to survive brutal conditions. The original steel hull remains central to the yacht’s character, with a rugged working-ship stance, high freeboard, commercial-grade steelwork and a purposeful wheelhouse.

Her hull plating measures 9.5mm steel, increasing to 12.7mm at the bow and stern, while the deep-displacement form and soft-chine stern shape drew comparisons from the owner to older Feadship hulls for their sea-kindly ride. The dark hull and grey pilothouse give the yacht an industrial look that deliberately avoids the polished appearance of modern superyachts.

The aft cockpit is designed as a practical outdoor living space with heavy-duty bollards, steel railings, integrated seating and direct access to the swim platform and tenders. One tender sits alongside the swim platform while a second tender is stowed on the boat deck beneath a large crane system. Wide grated side decks reinforce the vessel’s commercial roots while also preventing standing water in rough weather.

Above, the flybridge and upper deck areas create several elevated observation points. The flybridge includes modular seating, wind protection, an exterior helm station and a barbecue area positioned beneath the towering radar mast. The mast itself carries dual radars, extensive communications equipment and Starlink connectivity, while sat domes were relocated lower on the structure to preserve space aloft.

Forward, the bow remains heavily focused on offshore capability. A substantial breakwater protects the foredeck during heavy-weather passages while the anchoring system includes a 2,000kg anchor connected to 700ft of cable and 15ft of heavy chain through a commercial-grade winch system. The expansive working deck forward also houses life rafts, rescue equipment and storage areas, giving the yacht the feel of a true expedition ship rather than a converted pleasure yacht.

Interior Design

The interior of Anne S. Pierce was completely rebuilt during her extensive Newfoundland refit, transforming the former fishing vessel into a highly practical long-range explorer yacht with a warm residential feel. The owner deliberately avoided fragile custom yacht systems, instead favouring durable household appliances and straightforward engineering solutions that could be serviced almost anywhere in the world.

The main salon combines relaxed lounge seating with a formal dining area positioned beside large Diamond Sea Glaze windows that flood the space with natural light. A wood-burning stove sits at the heart of the salon, mounted on a steel and brick fire barrier that acts as both a visual focal point and a practical backup heat source during remote cold-weather cruising.

Forward of the salon sits a large country-style galley centred around a substantial island unit. The galley includes oversized refrigeration, extensive storage, a commercial-style gas hob, twin stainless steel sinks and household appliances selected for reliability and easy replacement. A dumbwaiter connects the galley directly to the flybridge for easier service between decks.

The wheelhouse is one of the yacht’s defining interior spaces. Built during the refit as a 20,000lb custom structure, it features reverse-raked windows across two levels that provide near-360° visibility. The space combines commercial ship functionality with residential comfort, including lounge seating, a wood-burning stove, navigator berth and full helm setup with Furuno navigation systems, commercial radar and independent control systems.

Accommodation

During the refit, the former fish hold was transformed into a four-stateroom guest layout with large ensuites capable of accommodating 10 guests, substantial storage and generous headroom throughout. The owner’s cabin features a walkaround double bed, extensive cabinetry, large hull windows and a spacious ensuite with an oversized shower that feels closer in scale to a spa steam room. Additional guest accommodation includes multiple double cabins and a VIP suite, all fitted with large hull windows positioned close to the waterline, creating strong sea views directly from the beds.

Crew accommodation for 6 sits aft and follows the same finish quality as the guest spaces, something the owner considered important for long expeditions.

Performance & Capabilities

Anne S. Pierce is powered by a CAT D399 main engine. This 16-cylinder machine delivers 1,100 hp, allowing the vessel to reach a maximum speed of 12 knots. While the engine is capable of 1,100 RPM, it is typically operated at a more efficient 800 RPM to ensure both longevity and fuel efficiency.

The yacht cruises comfortably at a speed of 9 knots. One of its most remarkable features is its extensive range; with a fuel capacity of 21,000 gallons spread across six storage tanks and a day tank, the Anne S. Pierce can cover up to 7,000 nautical miles on a single refuelling. This range is ideal for long-distance voyages, making it a true global cruiser.

The vessel is equipped with two CAT generators to meet its electrical needs. The larger CAT 3306 generator produces 70kW of electricity and powers hydraulic systems, including the bow and stern thrusters. The primary generator during most operations is a CAT 3304, a four-cylinder unit delivering 70kW of power. For quieter operations, such as overnight anchoring, a smaller CAT 2.2 generator is used.

The bow thruster is a 26-inch Westec, and the stern thruster is a 22-inch Cobelt, both powered by the CAT 3306 generator.

The yacht includes a blue water desalination unit capable of producing 70 gallons of fresh water per hour for a steady supply of potable water even on extended voyages. Additionally, a shore power converter allows the vessel to connect to electrical grids worldwide. The engine room is also equipped with two air compressors, three 50-gallon electric water heaters, and two high-capacity bilge pumps that double as fire pumps.

The Anne S. Pierce is designed for stability, featuring bilge keels, fuel, and seawater ballast. A recent inclination test confirmed its exceptional stability, providing peace of mind during turbulent conditions.
