Design & Construction
Designed around a displacement steel hull and an aluminium superstructure she features a 8.7m beam and a 3.05m draft. The yacht has an internal volume of 497 GT (Gross Tonnes).
Construction started in late 2022. The yacht was designed and constructed in compliance with the Lloyds Register technical standards. Launched in March 2024 this yacht undertook sea trials over the following months. She was delivered to her owners in May 2024.
Exterior Design
Five Oceans presents a purposeful working profile with a baby-blue hull, tangy orange boot top and accents, and a white superstructure. The friendly palette was chosen to avoid confusion with military craft during worldwide operations. The axe-bow form, high bow flare, and pronounced spray rails cut through head seas, reduce vertical motion, and help keep decks dry to protect sensitive equipment.
A broad aft platform is the operational heart, set up for launching and recovering large tenders, a sub, and specialist vehicles or for clearing down to host events. Across the Main and Bridge Decks there is 310m² (3,337ft²) of configurable working area. Custom cradles are hard-mounted into the substructure for strength and impact resistance yet can be unlocked and removed when a flat, clutter-free deck is preferred.
Five Oceans carries a Heila crane with a perch seat at the base so the owner can control movements during operations. An A-frame can be fitted when mission profiles require precision over-the-stern handling. A dedicated deck hatch was engineered above the dive suite so the hyperbaric chamber can be hoisted directly topside in an emergency. The hull form and systems were developed with naval architects and research teams to balance performance, efficiency, and comfort while meeting strict environmental goals.
Interior Design
Function leads the brief, with the YS53 layout tuned for adaptability and extended missions, yet there is warmth in the detailing. High-traffic spaces use robust, easy-care finishes, while select elements add polish. The saloon’s large screen is specified for research presentations and information sharing, and blackout blinds on runners seal the space for daytime viewing. A semi-enclosed dining area aft of the bridge gives a sheltered setting with immediate awareness of deck operations.
Material choices are practical without feeling spartan. Highlights include a marble dining table, hand-laid carbon-fibre awning poles, vinyl-veneer floors with convincing grain, turquoise-tinted saloon cabinetry, and artisanal fish-shaped lampshades sourced from Utah. The class configuration omits sprinklers, so interior fabrics and wall finishes were selected to meet stringent flammability rules without losing character. Audiovisual systems are high grade throughout, while cabins are deliberately screen-free to encourage time on deck and shared spaces.
The bridge features a touchscreen table that acts as a daily planning hub with real-time weather, fuel-use estimates, and live camera feeds. Forward of the dive room a heated and ventilated wardrobe dries wetsuits between dives. The in-house-built submarine operations container serves as a complete support shack with forced ventilation, fire suppression, workbenches, and heavy umbilicals, allowing rapid recharging and the option to lift and deploy the container to another vessel as needed.
Accommodation
Five Oceans accommodates 8 guests in 4 suites, with all guest cabins arranged on the Main Deck for easy circulation during long passages. The captain’s cabin is also on the Main Deck, reflecting the integrated, expedition-style operating philosophy rather than a formal owner-crew separation.
Crew capacity is up to 11, with an emphasis on welfare for remote cruising. The crew mess is notably generous, with deep sofas and a large screen, and there is a secure, coded passageway linking the crew area directly to the aft working deck beneath the crane for efficient movement during launch and recovery.
Performance & Capabilities
Powered by twin diesel MTU (16V4000M65) 3,000hp engines, motor yacht Five Oceans is capable of reaching a top speed of 21 knots, and comfortably cruises at 14 knots. She has a maximum range of 4,600 nautical miles at 14 knots.
