She was delivered to her owners in January 1935.

Exterior Design

Lady Hertha is a 26-meter (85.3ft) steel motor yacht, built in 1935 by Yarrow & Co in Scotland, with design by G.L. Watson. Her striking profile features a white hull above the waterline, complemented by a deep maroon bootstripe and anti-foul below. The superstructure continues the crisp white theme, creating a cohesive, elegant look that contrasts beautifully with the deep red accents. Teak decking provides a practical, durable surface underfoot, and the varnished wooden handrails, brass fittings, and classic blocks and tackle - many finished with gold braid and engraved with “Lady Hertha 1935” - add to her timeless charm.

The nearly vertical bow and high, rounded stern preserve her traditional silhouette, while portholes punctuate the hull, allowing natural light into the cabins. A traditional diving board extends from the stern, providing access to the water, while discreetly placed brass nameplates and engraved blocks showcase attention to detail at every turn. The aft main deck features a shaded dining space beneath the upper deck’s overhang, with a varnished custom-built table and fixed directors’ chairs creating an inviting spot for relaxed meals.

On the upper deck, a converted rowing boat is tucked into a seating area alongside classic steamer-style loungers and sofas, with further dining options aft of the funnel under a custom bimini shade. The funnel itself - once part of her original steam-powered design - now serves as a cleverly concealed storage space. Forward, the bridge wings offer side access to the side decks, while the bow area features a capstan and windlass, blending historical authenticity with practicality. The sun deck is a relaxed space with sunbathing cushions and optional directors’ chairs, perfect for enjoying the view. At night, the deck glows gently under repurposed antique lamps that have been wired for modern use and plug into discreetly placed outlets. A leather-wrapped rigging system supports the mast, with fittings maintained and refreshed annually to preserve their condition.

While the yacht once carried a tender, a chase boat now serves that role, with the original davit still visible on deck. There’s also a rope ladder along the side. Every corner reflects special care, from leather-wrapped gas struts on deck hatches to brass builder’s plaques marking her Yarrow & Co. heritage.

Lady Hertha captures 1930s elegance with modern systems beneath.

Interior Design

Lady Hertha’s interiors very much show off her classic craftsmanship, combining richly varnished wooden floors, cream-toned wood paneling, and rounded windows that flood the spaces with natural light. Brass accents and curved white ceilings with exposed beams complete the steamer-ship atmosphere, while subtle modern upgrades ensure comfort without disrupting her timeless character. The main saloon and dining area are defined by a large table that seats six, surrounded by burgundy leather bench seating and traditional mahogany chairs. Artefacts, vintage radios repurposed for Bluetooth connectivity, and brass-edged switch panels enhance the sense of history throughout.

The bridge is a standout feature, blending historical character with up-to-date technology. Original Gardner engine controls are complemented by Raymarine hybrid-touch screens, camera systems, and a Simrad autopilot - all set into brass housings that match the yacht’s heritage. The traditional telegraph connects the bridge to the engine room, while a spinning clear-view compass keeps visibility sharp in adverse weather. Every element, from the classic Gardner engine dials to the original helm, has been retained and subtly modernised, offering a unique blend of form and function.

The galley retains its traditional feel, with wooden cabinetry and vintage-style details, but is fully equipped with a ceramic hob, modern oven, Miele dishwasher, and updated appliances to support contemporary cruising. Quirky touches like working voice tubes - connecting the galley to the bridge and sun deck - add to the nostalgia.

Every space onboard is fitted with concealed modern systems: air conditioning, watermakers, LED lighting, and discreetly placed Bose speakers, all carefully integrated into the yacht’s classic design. Skylights have been added in key areas, such as the main saloon and guest cabins, to enhance natural light and maintain a bright, welcoming atmosphere. Even the lighting on deck has been thoughtfully considered, with antique oil lamps adapted for modern use, providing a soft, low-level glow at night.

Accommodation

Lady Hertha accommodates up to six guests across three staterooms located on the lower deck. The owner’s suite has been reimagined from two former cabins into one expansive space, featuring built-in drawers, a large berth, and additional storage, with the design geared towards practical, long-distance cruising. The suite retains a strong sense of history, with photographs and artefacts tracing the yacht’s past, while incorporating modern comforts like air conditioning, a vacuum flush toilet, and a cleverly integrated ensuite bathroom. Despite its classic aesthetic, the suite is fully functional, blending traditional joinery with hidden technology.

Aft on the lower deck, a twin guest cabin features two single beds and a skylight above - a feature thoughtfully added by the current owner - along with vintage radios upgraded for Bluetooth connectivity, creating a charming mix of old and new. The VIP guest cabin, situated amidships, is light and bright, with cream paneling, wooden flooring, and contemporary soft furnishings. Classic brass portholes open for ventilation, while the ensuite facilities include a modern vacuum flush toilet and shower, concealed within the traditional styling. Hanging lockers and drawers provide ample storage.

Crew accommodation is located forward, comprising two cabins: one for the captain and another for additional crew. These are supported by a practical galley and mess area, fitted with modern appliances and durable finishes that respect the yacht’s character while ensuring functionality. Crew capacity is for four, providing full service to guests onboard.
