More Details

Steel is a 54.9m expedition yacht for sale delivered by Pendennis in 2009. Her interior design and exterior styling comes from the drawing boards of Liebowitz & Pritchard, while Pendennis is responsible for her naval architecture.

Key Features

  • 55m ice-class explorer yacht
  • Active-current spa pool
  • 1A Ice Class certification
  • Hydraulic side beach platforms
  • Crow’s nest
  • Four zero-speed stabilisers

Design & Construction

Designed around a full displacement ice class steel hull and an aluminium superstructure she features a 9.8m beam and a 3.1m draft. The yacht is built over 3 decks with an internal volume of 769 GT (Gross Tonnes).

The yacht was designed and constructed in compliance with the Lloyds Register technical standards.

Exterior Design

The 55m (180.4ft) Pendennis-built explorer yacht Steel has a clear expedition profile, and the photos show a high, upright prow and a deep, rounded hull that carries volume low in the water. The steel hull and aluminium superstructure form a robust base, while the repaint to midnight blue gives the yacht a sharper, more modern finish compared to the earlier green.

The bow is tall and purposeful, so it suits offshore work and long passages, while the forward deck is laid out as a functional work area for anchoring and operations. Moving aft, the layout shifts into guest use, with wide open deck spaces and a large sundeck that includes an active-current spa pool set into a raised position with clear views outboard.

Access to the water is handled through hydraulic side platforms, and these create terrace-style spaces at sea level. The stern has a rounded form, both visually and structurally, and this shape supports stability when running in following seas. Above, a hydraulic Rondal crow’s nest lifts clear of the mast, adding a practical observation point for navigation and exploration.

Tender storage is built into the layout, including a 8.8m (29ft) jet tender, and the deck plan supports multiple craft and equipment without disrupting guest areas.

Interior Design

The interior reflects a classic approach, and the images show extensive use of high-gloss timber joinery across walls, cabinetry and structural elements. The finish is rich and detailed, with deep grain patterns and polished surfaces that define each space.

The main salon uses fixed seating with leather sofas and upholstered benches arranged around a central table, so the layout supports formal use as well as relaxed time on board. Joinery is a key feature throughout, with framed panels, columns and integrated storage built into the structure rather than added later.

Accommodation

Steel accommodates up to 10 guests across five cabins, with a main deck owner’s suite and four guest cabins arranged below deck.

The owner’s suite benefits from its main deck position, so it has direct access and better views, while guest cabins sit in the quieter lower deck areas. Each cabin follows the same traditional design language, with timber finishes, built-in wardrobes and en suite bathrooms.

She is also capable of carrying up to 12 crew onboard to ensure a relaxed luxury yacht experience.

Performance & Capabilities

Powered by twin diesel Caterpillar (3512B) 1,466hp engines, motor yacht Steel is capable of reaching a top speed of 15 knots, and comfortably cruises at 12 knots. With her 105,991 litre fuel tanks she has a maximum range of 5,190 nautical miles at 12 knots. She has been fitted with stabilizers to increase on-board comfort when the yacht is at anchor, particularly in rough waters.

Amenities

A gym with all the latest equipment allows her guests to keep their workout routines while at sea. Air conditioning offers increased on-board comfort. Steel also features a deck jacuzzi for cooling off.
