Outer Reef Yachts Launches First 780 Adventure Explorer

U.S.-based builder Outer Reef Yachts has officially launched the first Outer Reef 780 Adventure series, a 24m steel-hulled explorer yacht that marks a bold entry into the steel expedition sector for the shipyard.

Constructed at Outer Reef’s Dutch shipyard and scheduled for delivery later this year, the launch of the Outer Reef 780 Adventure was marked by a private celebration in the Netherlands, attended by key figures from Outer Reef and Lynx Yachts.

A Strategic Shift into Steel

The 780 Adventure is the inaugural launch in the newly created Outer Reef Adventure Series, developed in collaboration with Dutch shipyard Lynx Yachts following their 2024 merger. This move not only expands Outer Reef’s production capabilities in Europe but also signifies the brand’s first foray into steel construction.

Designed by Bernd Weel, the expedition yacht presents clean, geometric lines with a purposeful explorer profile. The interiors are the work of Julian Moore Design, and naval architecture was undertaken by Lynx Yachts. Together, these elements deliver a yacht built to CE Category A standards for unrestricted ocean navigation, with optional MCA SCV Code compliance available.

Purposeful Styling

The main saloon onboard the motor yacht is connected to both the galley and the wheelhouse, creating a flowing interior experience that encourages both privacy and social interaction.

Sound-dampening materials are integrated into the construction to enhance acoustic comfort during voyages.

Accommodation is flexible and spacious. The standard layout includes four guest cabins—two VIP doubles and two twin staterooms—while an optional fifth cabin can be specified. Crew quarters comprise two double cabins, allowing the yacht to operate efficiently with professional support for extended cruising.

Outdoor Spaces Made for Exploration

Outdoor spaces on the 780 Adventure are arranged to support both relaxation and adventure. The aft deck features a protected cockpit ideal for dining or lounging in more exposed conditions. The upper sun deck is a key social hub, with a bar, dining area, and generous seating. Forward, a lounge area with an Omega-shaped sofa and wet bar provides additional entertaining space.

A standout feature onboard the yacht is the substantial tender and toy-carrying capacity. A 1000kg crane on the foredeck can launch a six-meter tender and two Jet Skis, while a large lazarette below deck offers further storage. A custom dive center configuration is also available for owners with more specialized gear.

A Transoceanic Range

Beneath her robust exterior lies a fast-displacement steel hull and superstructure engineered for long-range cruising. Twin 425hp Cummins QSB 6.7 engines deliver a maximum speed of 12.4 knots and a cruising speed of 11.4 knots, while zero-speed Sidepower Vector Fin stabilizers ensure comfort underway and at anchor. For those requiring additional power, upgraded engines are offered, boosting performance up to 18 knots top speed and 12 knots cruise.

The yacht’s 15,000-liter fuel capacity provides a notable range of up to 3,000 nautical miles at 7 knots, making her a strong candidate for serious passage-making. At 140 GT, she balances this capability with manageable volume, offering excellent stability with a 6.75-meter beam and 1.90-meter draft.

The first 780 Adventure is now completing final outfitting before embarking on her maiden voyage to the South of France, where she will be available for private viewings.

A Compact Companion: The 540 Adventure

While the 780 Adventure sets the tone for steel-hulled exploration, Outer Reef’s newly unveiled 540 Adventure brings that same spirit of capability and comfort to a more compact platform. Measuring 17.2 meters (56 feet 5 inches) and constructed from FRP with a fast-displacement hull, the 540 is the entry-level model in the Adventure Series and caters to those seeking long-range cruising in a manageable format.

Developed in collaboration with Bernd Weel Design, Studio Delta Naval Architects, and Julian Moore Design, the 540 Adventure features a three-stateroom layout, including a full-beam master suite, two heads, and optional crew accommodation. With a standard range of 2,000 nautical miles and optional tank upgrades extending this to 4,700 nm, she is well-equipped for serious offshore cruising.

The yacht’s outdoor spaces are equally refined, with a shaded flybridge dining area, foredeck lounge, and generous aft seating. With Volvo Penta shaft drive propulsion and CE Category A certification, she blends ease of handling with proven seaworthiness. The 540 Adventure is ideal for owner-operators, downsizers, or first-time cruisers seeking a long-distance yacht that doesn’t compromise on comfort or style.

The model is currently in development and is expected to launch in 2026.
