The award winning 42.9m expedition yacht Orixa was delivered to her owners in 2022 by Italian shipyard Cantiere delle Marche. The yacht's refined interiors have been crafted by Simon Hamui, while her exteriors have been penned by Horacio Bozzo Design.

Design & Construction

Designed around a displacement steel hull and an aluminium superstructure she features a 8.6m beam and a 2.6m draft. The yacht is built over 3 decks with an internal volume of 499 GT (Gross Tonnes).

Launched in January 2022 this yacht undertook sea trials over the following months. She was completed at Cantiere delle Marche's Cantiere delle Marche yard in Italy where she was commissioned and delivered to her owners.

Exterior Design

Orixa is a 43.1m (141.4ft) Cantiere delle Marche Deep Blue 141 that brings together true expedition capability and refined superyacht styling. Designed by Horacio Bozzo, her profile avoids the upright, industrial look often associated with explorer yachts. A gently raked bow, flowing sheerline and compact, set-back superstructure give her balanced proportions that feel equally at home in a remote anchorage or a Mediterranean marina.

The Deep Blue 141 platform was developed from Orixa's original design and became one of Cantiere delle Marche's flagship explorer models. It answered demand for a yacht that could cross oceans with confidence while offering the finish and comfort expected of a contemporary superyacht. The design also makes full use of the 499GT threshold, maximising internal volume without moving into the next regulatory bracket.

Her generous 8.6m (28.2ft) beam creates impressive internal volume, but careful detailing keeps the profile light. Large sections of glazing dominate the main deck, while the structural mullions are recessed so the windows appear almost uninterrupted from outside. Forward, the subtle separation between the upper works and the hull creates the distinctive "beak" that has become a hallmark of the Deep Blue series, while long horizontal lines draw the eye cleanly from bow to stern.

Outdoor spaces were designed for extended cruising rather than occasional weekends aboard. The aft main deck centres on a swimming pool whose glazed base brings natural light into the dive store below. The upper deck becomes the yacht's principal outdoor living space, where the saloon opens through full-height sliding doors onto a sheltered aft terrace. Above again, the sundeck combines a spa pool, dining area, bar and generous sunpads beneath sliding glass windbreaks that make the deck comfortable across a wide range of conditions.

Engineering quality appears throughout the exterior. Storage lockers are fitted with CNC-machined aluminium doors and heavy-duty seals, while each 44kg cabin door uses quadruple hinges, gas struts and compression seals to eliminate movement and noise during long passages. They are small details individually, but together they reflect the standards expected aboard a yacht built to spend weeks at sea rather than days.

Interior Design

Mexican designer Simón Hamui approached Orixa much as he would a contemporary residence, creating calm, tactile spaces built around natural materials instead of decorative excess. Aged ash cabinetry, wire-brushed oak wall panelling, textured ash flooring, aged eucalyptus in the owner's suite and grey sucupira in the guest cabins establish a palette that feels warm without becoming dark.

Every major piece of furniture was custom designed by Hamui's studio and crafted in Mexico or Italy. Cashmere upholstery, leather inserts and hand-woven alpaca rugs introduce texture, while rounded furniture, matte finishes and indirect lighting soften each room. A felt substitute fitted across the overheads with timber battens improves acoustic insulation and gives the interior a quieter, more intimate atmosphere.

The arrangement is equally distinctive. Instead of dedicating much of the main deck to a formal saloon, Orixa features a comfortable media lounge that works as a quieter retreat. The primary social space sits one deck above, where the upper saloon combines generous seating with a dining table beside full-height sliding doors. Open the doors and the interior extends naturally onto the aft deck, while the unusually broad side decks almost function as sea-level balconies alongside the saloon.

Accommodation

Orixa accommodates up to 12 guests in six cabins, with a layout that makes particularly good use of the available volume.

Four guest cabins occupy the main deck, including the owner's suite forward. Rather than dominating the deck with an oversized apartment, the owner's cabin remains closely matched to the guest accommodation, allowing four cabins to occupy the main deck while preserving generous circulation throughout. Large hull windows, a walk-in wardrobe and an ensuite bathroom complete the suite.

Two further guest cabins occupy the lower deck, finished in the same combination of natural woods, leather and bespoke furnishings found elsewhere aboard. The consistent approach to materials means every cabin feels connected to the overall interior rather than treated as a secondary space.

Crew accommodation was planned with the same care. Spacious cabins, a large crew mess and a well-equipped galley support extended cruising, while service pantries on both guest decks and a dumbwaiter running to the sundeck allow meals and drinks to move efficiently throughout the yacht with minimal disruption.

Performance & Capabilities

Twin Caterpillar C32 diesel 1,014hp engines running at 2100rpm give Orixa a top speed of 14 knots and a comfortable cruising speed of 12 knots. At an economical 9.5 knots she has a transoceanic range of 8,000 nautical miles, placing destinations from the South Pacific to Antarctica comfortably within reach.

The engineering spaces demonstrate why Cantiere delle Marche has earned such a strong reputation among experienced explorer owners. The engine room provides excellent access around the machinery and incorporates a dedicated control room, a feature rarely found aboard a yacht of this size. Beneath it, a full-height service tunnel runs almost the length of the hull, providing straightforward access to stabilisers, pipework and major systems while also doubling as secure luggage storage.

Orixa was also configured with serious diving in mind. A dedicated dive store sits beneath the aft swimming pool, illuminated by skylights built into the pool floor above, while a nitrox compressor supports extended diving operations far from shore facilities.

Stabilisers reduce motion both underway and at anchor, allowing the yacht to remain comfortable whether crossing oceans or spending long periods anchored in remote cruising grounds.
