Design & Construction
Designed around a planing composite hull and a GRP superstructure she features a 9.2m beam and a 2m draft. The yacht has an internal volume of 499 GT (Gross Tonnes).
This was the first yacht built on the Mangusta 165 REV design. Launched in July 2022 this yacht undertook sea trials over the following months. She was delivered to her owners in September 2022.
Exterior Design
Rebellious is the first Mangusta 165 REV, the yacht that redefined Overmarine's flagship Maxi Open range after more than a decade of evolution. Rather than simply updating the successful Mangusta 165, the shipyard rethought almost every aspect of the design to answer changing owner expectations. The brief was ambitious: retain the exhilarating performance and unmistakable low profile of a Mangusta while introducing the space, light and amenities normally associated with much larger displacement yachts.
Working with Igor Lobanov, Overmarine drew inspiration from the flowing forms of 1920s and 1930s grand touring cars. The result is a profile that remains unmistakably Mangusta, with its long foredeck, low superstructure and sweeping roofline, but introduces softer, more sculptural surfaces than previous generations. Continuous bands of glazing stretch almost uninterrupted from bow to stern, while carefully integrated air intakes and crisp detailing preserve the yacht's athletic character.
One of the greatest engineering achievements lies beneath the styling. Moving the owner's suite onto the main deck required the forward section of the yacht to gain a second level, raising the foredeck by around 600mm. Despite this substantial increase in volume, the change is almost impossible to detect from outside. The 165 REV retains the sleek proportions of the original model while offering almost 499GT of internal volume.
The exterior layout reflects how modern owners use their yachts. A generous foredeck lounge culminates in an infinity pool, while the main saloon opens onto two fold-down balconies that dramatically increase the connection with the sea. A 69m² (743ft²) sundeck provides another large social area with a bar, seating and sun loungers, and the new 36m² (388ft²) beach club replaces the more utilitarian aft arrangement found on the original 165. The tender garage also moves forward of the engine room, accessed through a side shell door, allowing the stern to become a dedicated leisure space.
Interior Design
The changes become even more apparent inside. Previous Maxi Open yachts often prioritised performance over interior volume, but the 165 REV was designed to feel like a contemporary superyacht without losing its sporting character. The architecture centres on light, height and openness, creating spaces that appear considerably larger than the yacht's dimensions suggest.
The main saloon is defined by an extraordinary strip of glazing that continues beyond the windows and into the ceiling itself. Instead of a conventional band of fibreglass above the side windows, additional glass floods the room with daylight and visually lifts the ceiling far beyond its actual height. Combined with parquet flooring, lacquered panels, painted ash and Ocean Storm marble, the result is a bright, refined interior that feels markedly different from earlier Mangusta flagships.
Large sliding doors and fold-down balconies strengthen the connection between the saloon and the sea, while the dining area remains closely linked to the sheltered aft deck for easy indoor and outdoor entertaining. Throughout the yacht, soft curves replace hard edges, creating a relaxed atmosphere that complements the flowing exterior design.
Accommodation
Accommodation is arranged for up to 12 guests across six cabins, but the defining feature is the remarkable 92m² (990ft²) owner's apartment on the main deck. Rather than simply relocating the owner's cabin from below, Overmarine and Lobanov completely reinvented the concept, creating a split-level suite that feels closer to a private residence than a conventional yacht cabin.
Guests enter through a private lounge before descending a few gentle steps into the bedroom itself. The change in level subtly divides the space without using walls, making the suite feel even larger while helping disguise its considerable volume within the yacht's sleek profile. A custom circular bed, sweeping curves, oversized hull windows, two full dressing rooms and an onyx-clad bathroom complete one of the most distinctive owner's suites found aboard any performance yacht.
Five additional guest cabins occupy the lower deck, including a full-beam VIP suite, all with ensuite bathrooms. The redesign also transformed the operational layout by moving the crew quarters forward beneath the owner's suite. This allows crew to circulate independently of the main guest areas while making room aft for the beach club, a much larger galley and improved service spaces.
She is also capable of carrying up to 10 crew onboard to ensure a relaxed luxury yacht experience.
Performance & Capabilities
Rebellious delivers the pace expected of a Mangusta flagship through four 2,600hp MTU 16V 2000 M96L engines driving Kamewa waterjets. The installation produces a top speed of 34 knots and a fast cruising speed of around 30 knots, with a range of approximately 650 nautical miles at that speed.
Rather than relying on exposed propellers, the waterjets draw water through intake tunnels beneath the hull before accelerating it through steerable jets at the stern. The system delivers immediate throttle response, exceptional manoeuvrability and remarkably low vibration at speed while helping maintain the yacht's shallow 2m (6.6ft) draft.
The engineering beneath the surface also evolved significantly from the original Mangusta 165. Overmarine re-engineered the structure using finite element analysis, introduced greater use of carbon fibre and refined both the hull and propulsion package. Together, these changes reduced fuel consumption by around 30% at 30 knots compared with the previous flagship while preserving the exhilarating performance that defines the Mangusta Maxi Open series
