Design & Construction
Designed around a semi-displacement aluminium hull and superstructure she features a 6.1m beam and a 1.9m draft. The yacht is built over 2 decks with an internal volume of 163 GT (Gross Tonnes).
Exterior Design
Iron Lady is one of those Browards that makes much more sense once you know why she is relatively narrow. This was the last of the yard's 6.1m (20ft) beam hulls, a dimension chosen when marina slips for yachts of this length were considerably tighter than they are today. Later Browards grew to 7m (23ft) and even 7.9m (26ft) across the beam, but Iron Lady retains the slimmer proportions of the earlier generation.
That narrower hull does not mean narrow living spaces. Broward gives the saloon the full beam through the middle of the yacht, sacrificing walkaround side decks alongside that room before exterior circulation resumes farther forward. It is a clever trade because the main saloon feels noticeably broader than the beam figure suggests, while guests and crew still have exterior routes around the forward part of the yacht.
The profile itself is classic raised-pilothouse Broward, with a long foredeck, relatively low superstructure and a flybridge that carries much of the outdoor living above. The bow remains largely working deck, with a central anchor, deep bosun's locker and a large raised sunpad farther aft.
Aft, the swim platform has removable rails and direct access through the transom to the crew area and engine room. Twin stairs lead to the cockpit, where a dining table seats around ten and a proper outdoor bar includes refrigeration, an ice maker, sink and television.
The upper deck is unusually versatile. The aft section works as a boat deck with a davit and space for a tender or two personal watercraft, while the mast can fold down when bridge clearance becomes an issue. Farther forward are a barbecue, refrigeration, a hot tub and additional seating.
Interior Design
Iron Lady's interior has the warm timber joinery and straightforward furniture layout associated with American yachts of this period, but the amount of open floor space is what stands out most.
The main saloon uses the full width of the hull, with large windows along both sides and loose lounge furniture rather than filling every corner with built-in seating. A large bar and wine fridge sit forward of the lounge, followed by formal dining for eight. Storage runs almost continuously beneath the windows and around the entertainment cabinetry.
The photographs show that the timber has been balanced with pale seating, simple contemporary dining chairs and cleaner decorative pieces, so the room feels warmer than a modern white-on-white interior without becoming overly formal.
The galley is particularly good. Broward was an early adopter of the American country-kitchen arrangement, and Iron Lady has a huge central island with butcher-block inserts, substantial refrigeration, a full oven, electric hob, dishwasher, ice maker and a remarkable amount of storage. Seating for at least six, and probably eight, turns it into somewhere guests can actually spend time rather than a room reserved entirely for crew.
The raised pilothouse is much more workmanlike. Windows on both sides give good visibility, particularly when docking, while upgraded Garmin plotters sit alongside Furuno displays, Caterpillar monitors, stabiliser controls and the original helm equipment. There are two separate routes into the pilothouse, an arrangement that is increasingly uncommon on newer raised-pilothouse yachts.
Accommodation
Iron Lady accommodates eight guests in four suites, comprising the owner's cabin, two VIPs and a twin.
One of the VIP suites occupies an unusually private position forward. It is reached by its own stairway and has a queen bed, walk-in wardrobe, en suite and a separate office. An overhead escape hatch can also bring daylight into the room. It feels more like a small private apartment than a conventional forward guest cabin.
The remaining guest accommodation sits lower in the yacht. A twin cabin has generous floor space, storage beneath the beds and a large shower, while the second VIP has a queen bed, substantial wardrobe space and another particularly roomy en suite.
The owner's suite is full beam and has a king-size bed, large amounts of built-in storage and two walk-in wardrobes. The wide entrance door and unusually clear floor area make the cabin feel less cluttered than many yachts of this age.
The bathroom is the memorable bit. His-and-hers areas meet at an enormous central shower enclosure fitted with two shower heads. The walkthrough jokingly describes it as large enough for six people, but the useful point is that it is genuinely huge for a yacht in this size range.
Separate crew accommodation sits aft beside the machinery spaces, with its own refrigeration, laundry facilities, workbench and storage. Iron Lady can accommodate up to six crew.
Performance & Capabilities
Powered by twin diesel Caterpillar (C-30) 1,550hp engines, motor yacht Iron Lady is capable of reaching a top speed of 25 knots, and comfortably cruises at 18 knots. With her 34,068 litre fuel tanks she has a maximum range of 2,250 nautical miles at an economic speed of 13 knots. Her semi-displacement hull design means she offers a great balance of space and speed.
