Delivered in 2025 by Feadship, the 80m custom yacht was recognized for its disciplined, purpose-driven design and its ability to operate in demanding environments without compromising onboard usability.
A Purpose-Led Winner in a Competitive Class
In one of the most closely contested categories, Valor stood apart for the clarity of its brief and the consistency of its execution. Judges pointed to the owner’s close involvement throughout the build, with every major decision shaped by long-range cruising requirements and real-world operational use.
Naval architecture and exterior design were developed in-house by Feadship De Voogt Naval Architects and Studio De Voogt, while interiors were created by Bannenberg & Rowell Design. Together, the team delivered a motor yacht centered on capability, efficiency, and long-term practicality.
Rather than chasing visual trends, the project focused on durability and function. The result is a yacht designed for extended time at sea, including operation in remote and high-latitude regions, while maintaining the comfort expected of a full-custom build.
A Hull Designed for Harsh Environments
Valor’s defining feature is its ice-class steel hull, reinforced by a two-meter ice belt above and below the waterline. Certified to Bureau Veritas Young Ice Class 2, the superyacht is equipped for Arctic and sub-Arctic routes, including passages such as the Northwest Passage.
The exterior profile reflects this operational focus. A dreadnought-style bow, developed at the owner’s request, provides both structural strength and a distinctive visual identity. Sharp transitions, controlled geometry, and carefully managed proportions ensure the yacht maintains balance despite its scale and capability.
Key exterior features include:
- Helipad with full helicopter operational capability
- Contra-flow infinity pool positioned as a central aft feature
- Forward tender storage integrated into the bow structure
- Beach club with fold-down platforms and direct water access
Deck layouts are equally deliberate. Walkaround configurations across multiple levels support safe movement for both guests and crew, while the general arrangement separates operational and guest areas to improve onboard efficiency.
Advanced Hybrid System Supports Long Voyages
At the core of Valor’s technical package is Feadship’s Advanced Electrical Drive system. The hybrid setup uses four variable-speed generators connected to a DC grid, supported by a 5.34MWh lithium-ion battery bank and solar input from mast-mounted panels.
This configuration enables up to 48 hours of zero-emission operation, a key factor for cruising in environmentally sensitive areas. It also delivers quiet operation at anchor and improved energy efficiency across longer passages.
Propulsion is handled by twin azimuthing thrusters, contributing to a top speed of around 15 knots and a cruising speed of 11 knots. With a range of approximately 5,000 nautical miles, the yacht is designed for extended itineraries without frequent refueling stops.
Architectural Approach
Inside, the design follows a clear architectural direction shaped by material quality and structural detailing. The owner described the concept as a “WW2 battleship with a modern yacht twist,” a theme reflected in the use of stone, bronze, timber, and glass throughout the interior.
A central feature is the four-deck staircase, constructed from more than 48,000 individual components. This installation anchors the interior layout while reinforcing the yacht’s focus on craftsmanship and engineering precision. Valor accommodates up to 14 guests across seven suites, with the owner’s apartment occupying a private forward deck. This space includes a study, dressing room, private Jacuzzi, and direct access to an expansive terrace.
Feadship Secures Strong Presence Across Categories
Valor’s success formed part of a wider presence for Feadship across multiple categories at this year’s awards. The 119-meter Breakthrough claimed Motor Yacht of the Year, recognized for its hydrogen fuel-cell propulsion system and the regulatory work required to bring the technology into operation at scale. With a gross tonnage of 7,247GT, the project represents one of the most complex builds in recent years.
In the larger displacement category, the 100-meter Pi secured a win for yachts above 2,500GT. Judges highlighted its refined hull design, extensive use of curved glass, and highly controlled interior by Liaigre, which balances minimalism with detailed craftsmanship.
Meanwhile, the 57-meter Solace took top honors in the Refitted Yachts category following an extensive rebuild at Pendennis. The project focused on restoring the yacht’s original character while upgrading systems and preparing her for long-range cruising, including a planned circumnavigation.
