Design & Construction

Designed around a displacement ice class steel hull and an aluminium superstructure she features a 31'2" beam and a 12'2" draft. The yacht is built over 4 decks with an internal volume of 706 GT (Gross Tonnes).

Launched in May 2020 this yacht undertook sea trials over the following months. She was delivered to her owners in July 2020.

Exterior Design

Blue II draws on the working strength and quiet elegance of early 20th-century Dutch commercial craft while carrying the comfort and capability of a modern explorer. Hoek Design shaped the profile around long horizontal lines, a near-vertical bow, a canoe stern and generous open decks. The look is deliberate and confident, recalling steamship proportions without slipping into nostalgia. The golden buff funnel anchors the aesthetic, a warm yellow once used to keep steamship stacks visible against the sea. Skylights around it pull daylight down into the upper saloon.

The hull carries Ice Class capability and a single-propeller arrangement common on commercial ships, chosen for reliability and efficiency on long routes. Blue II’s structure handles calm Mediterranean passages as easily as higher-latitude conditions, which was central to the owners’ brief.

Exterior decks run across four levels with wide walk-arounds and fixed seating placed to maintain the classic period style. The owners asked for built-in seating to keep loose furniture to a minimum, so the design remains orderly even when the yacht is fully in use. Teak, blue hull plates and white superstructure lines create a calm, marine palette that suits the yacht’s proportions.

Turquoise Yachts engineered the tender-handling system around the owners’ requirement for a 10m limousine tender stored entirely out of sight. A custom 6-tonne articulating crane by Nautical Structures works through 10.4m hydraulically driven hatches on the aft main deck, launching both the limo tender and the crew tender/rescue boat without disturbing the yacht’s lines.

Blue II strikes a balance between the stylistic cues of traditional maritime design and the requirements of a modern exploration yacht.

Interior Design

The interior palette is defined by high-gloss finished teak, crisp white paint, and soft beige upholstered panels, creating a timeless and classic atmosphere that resonates with a sense of calm and order.

The main saloon is a study in carefully considered spaces, with a dining area to port and a sitting area to starboard. These communal areas are demarcated by a full-height bookcase, which not only serves as a visual anchor but also houses a television that can rotate 360 degrees, offering flexible viewing options. The use of wide-plank oak flooring coupled with durable faux sisal rugs adds a tactile warmth to the space, inviting guests to linger and relax.

Attention to detail can be seen in the ingenious use of space-saving features, such as cantilevered desks in cabins and a cleverly designed upper deck lobby that maximizes the sense of openness without sacrificing floor space. The incorporation of double doors to the baths in VIP and larger guest cabins enhances the perception of spaciousness and luxury within a confined space.

The designers at Vickers Studio and Dols & Co Interiors have worked in concert to select a range of boldly patterned accent fabrics that punctuate the interior with subtle visual interest without overwhelming the senses. The built-in furniture and joinery, crafted by Ulutaş, further exemplify the yacht's dedication to quality and craftsmanship.

A walk-up bar and coffee station in the saloon reflect the owners' preference for self-sufficiency and relaxed living. This thoughtful amenity allows guests the freedom to serve themselves in a casual and hospitable environment.

Accommodation

Blue II sleeps up to 12 guests in six staterooms. Two principal suites serve the co-owners. The first sits on the main deck, close to the wellness spaces, and runs full beam with a calm, understated atmosphere that continues into the adjoining sauna, hammam and gym/massage room. The second principal suite lies on the upper deck with a sweeping 180° view across the raised bow. Skylights brighten the space, while a private office sits aft, reached by a discreet circular staircase behind the bridge.

Guest cabins follow the same design logic as the main suites, each with cantilevered desks and broad bathroom entrances that open the space. The crew quarters support up to 11 crew, with a hidden passage from the guest lobby that allows the team to move quietly and keep service discreet. The captain’s cabin sits on the lower deck with direct access to the working areas.
