Design & Construction
Designed around a semi-displacement composite hull and a GRP superstructure she features a 7.32m beam and a 1.68m draft. The yacht is built over 2 decks with an internal volume of 200 GT (Gross Tonnes).
Exterior Design
Checkered Past is a 34.14m (112ft) Westport 112 raised pilothouse motor yacht, built in composite with a semi-displacement hull and composite superstructure. Her beam is 7.32m (24ft), while her draft is just 1.68m (5.5ft), which gives her the shallow-water reach needed for the Bahamas while still carrying the volume expected from this Westport series.
The exterior design is by Jack Sarin and follows the Westport 112 formula: clean American lines, a broad beam carried through the hull, and a raised pilothouse profile that keeps the yacht practical without looking dated. The white superstructure sits above long, dark window bands, while high bulwarks and stainless steel rails give safe movement around the deck.
The aft deck is covered, air-conditioned and heated, with removable Stamoid EZ2CY three-sided curtains, so the space works in different weather. A U-shaped settee, large gloss teak table and walk-up bar with blue granite top make it the main shaded dining area, while twin curved staircases lead down to the swim platform. New teak was fitted to the aft deck, stairs and swim platform in 2018.
The flybridge is a major part of the yacht’s appeal. It has a rigid bimini, tinted windscreen, three Stidd helm chairs, port and starboard wing control stations, a curved bar with blue granite top, grill, sink, refrigerator and icemaker. A centreline six-person Jacuzzi, sunpad, chaise lounges and tender storage complete the layout, so the deck works for driving, dining, sunning and tender handling.
The foredeck is set up with two large sunpad zones, one on the lower foredeck and another on the upper house deck. Stainless steel rails, centreline steps and good side-deck access make the bow usable rather than just visual space. The yacht also carries an 18ft (5.5m) Novurania tender with 115hp outboard, handled by a Nautical Structures 2,000lb (907kg) davit.
Interior Design
The interior was designed by Sheryl Guyan and Pacific Custom Interiors, with oak tones, marble surfaces and a wide main deck layout shaped by the yacht’s 7.32m (24ft) beam. The main saloon is entered through double sliding glass doors from the aft deck, so the transition from outdoor dining to the lounge is direct.
A sunken marble-topped bar sits to port with four stools, an icemaker, sink and storage, while the starboard side has a large L-shaped sofa with ottoman tables. The entertainment centre includes a 42-inch HDTV on a lift, and a Sonos system runs through the yacht.
Forward, the formal dining area has a large round glass table for eight, set beneath a custom overhead soffit with decorative and dimmable lighting. Built-in buffet cabinets with marble tops sit to port and starboard, with dedicated china, glassware and flatware storage. A 50-bottle wine cooler is placed within the dining area, which is a useful touch on a yacht set up for longer cruising and hosting.
The country-style galley sits forward and includes a U-shaped banquette for informal meals. Equipment includes a GE five-burner cooktop, oven, full standing fridge-freezer, dishwasher, granite counters and backsplashes, double stainless sink, disposal, Insta-hot water dispenser and trash compactor.
The raised pilothouse can be entered from port or starboard on the main deck. It has a central Crown Classic leather helm chair, engine monitors, Garmin displays, radar, autopilot, bow thruster control, stabilizer controls and navigation software. A raised L-shaped leather settee and table also make it a guest-friendly watchkeeping space.
Accommodation
Checkered Past accommodates up to eight guests in four staterooms, with a full-beam master suite, VIP cabin, double cabin and twin cabin. She also carries up to four crew in three cabins.
The master suite is reached through a double-door entry on the lower deck and has a centreline king berth with storage below. A 16-drawer dresser with granite top sits to port, while a settee, storage and cedar-lined walk-in closet sit to starboard. The en suite has his-and-hers areas, marble vanity tops and flooring, chrome and gold fixtures, a walk-through crema marble shower and a Jacuzzi tub.
The VIP cabin is forward of the galley and has its own private stairway. It includes a centreline queen berth, built-in shelving, a settee, drawer storage, cedar-lined hanging locker, 42-inch Sony TV and en suite with marble vanity and glass shower.
The port guest cabin has a queen berth, built-in nightstands, granite-topped dresser and cedar-lined closet, while the starboard twin has two berths, a central nightstand, reading lights and built-in storage.
Crew accommodation is aft, with access from the swim platform or aft deck. The captain’s cabin has a double berth and private head, while two further crew cabins share a head with shower. The crew mess includes Sub-Zero refrigeration, Corian counters, two sets of washers and dryers, and extra freezer capacity.
