Delivered in 2015, Nyla is a 31.71m motor yacht built by Turkish shipyard Mengi Yay. Her naval architecture and exterior design comes from the drawing boards of Ginton Naval Architects, while BTA Design is responsible for her interior design.

Design & Construction
Designed around a displacement steel hull and an aluminium superstructure she features a 7.5m beam and a 2.8m draft. The yacht is built over 3 decks with an internal volume of 285 GT (Gross Tonnes).
Launched in September 2014 this yacht undertook sea trials over the following months. She was delivered to her owners in January 2014.
Exterior Design
Nyla, a 31.7m (104ft) Mengi Yay explorer yacht, was designed by Ginton Naval Architects around long-distance cruising rather than marina life. Her full-displacement steel hull, aluminium superstructure and 285GT volume give her the look of a compact expedition ship, with high bulwarks, a raised pilothouse and a broad 7.7m (25.3ft) beam that favours comfort and carrying capacity over outright speed.
The profile is clean and purposeful. Dark glazing bands break up the white superstructure, while the near-vertical surfaces and long foredeck create the reassuring feel of a yacht built to cross oceans. Wide side decks and deep bulwarks run from stern to bow, and the foredeck itself has become a private outdoor lounge with built-in seating, sunpads, loose chairs and a large awning for shade.
The aft deck has seen some of the most useful changes during ownership. Large opening doors link directly to the saloon, while hydraulic fold-down platforms extend the deck area at anchor. A curved bar sits across the stern, turning the space into a social hub close to the water.
Above, the upper deck combines the practical and the recreational. A dining area, barbecue, bar, refrigeration, sun loungers and a large hot tub occupy the deck, while substantial storage below allows the yacht to carry equipment for extended cruising. The deck can also accommodate the Novurania 460DL tender and additional toys, including the Sea-Doo carried aboard.
What makes Nyla particularly interesting is that these spaces were not designed purely for occasional holiday use. Under private ownership she spent years cruising through the Mediterranean, South Pacific, Australia, New Zealand and Fiji, so the layout reflects the demands of people who actually lived aboard for long periods rather than owners making short coastal hops.
Interior Design
Nyla's interior tells the story of a yacht that evolved through use. Originally designed by Guido de Groot and later redesigned through a major refit programme that culminated in a 2022 interior refresh by Nunzia Confessore, the yacht moved away from a more traditional explorer layout towards something better suited to extended family cruising.
The biggest change came in the main deck living spaces. The galley was once a largely enclosed crew domain separated by bulkheads and a dedicated crew mess. Owners who spent weeks at sea decided that arrangement no longer suited the way they used the yacht. The area was opened up and transformed into a large family kitchen and gathering space where guests and crew could interact naturally.
The main saloon follows the same philosophy. Large windows flood the space with natural light, while comfortable seating groups and a retractable projector create a relaxed environment for family life aboard. Practicality played as much of a role as appearance. Carpets were replaced with more durable flooring in high-traffic areas after years of use by children and guests returning from the water.
Storage is a recurring theme throughout the yacht. Owners regularly spent up to a month aboard without returning to shore, so extensive refrigeration, deep lockers and carefully planned storage spaces became essential parts of the design rather than afterthoughts. Several refrigeration units were even duplicated elsewhere on board so components could be swapped out while cruising in remote regions.
The bridge also received extensive upgrades. Navigation equipment was renewed during the refit programme, while circulation routes were redesigned so guests could move between decks without constantly passing through the wheelhouse.
Accommodation
Nyla accommodates up to 10 guests across five cabins and carries up to eight crew.
The owner's suite occupies the forward section of the main deck and feels closer to a private apartment than a standard yacht cabin. An office sits between the sleeping area and bathroom, allowing owners to work while cruising. Extensive storage lines the cabin, reflecting the yacht's long-range role, while the en suite includes a large circular bathtub, twin basins and a fold-down television.
Four guest cabins occupy the lower deck. The arrangement includes three doubles and one twin, all with en suite bathrooms and entertainment systems. Rather than repeating the same design throughout, the cabins use different wood finishes and detailing to give each room its own character. Large hull windows and portholes bring natural light into spaces that remain comfortable even during extended stays aboard.
The crew accommodation provides another example of owner-led thinking. The original layout included four crew cabins, but a decision was made to remove one cabin and create a much larger crew mess and lounge instead. The redesigned area includes a retractable television, flexible seating and improved recreational facilities. According to those on board, the changes came directly from discussions with the crew about how they wanted to live during long voyages.
Performance & Capabilities
Powered by twin diesel Caterpillar (C18) 6-cylinder 490hp engines running at 2100rpm, motor yacht Nyla is capable of reaching a top speed of 14 knots, and comfortably cruises at 10 knots. With her 32,000 litre fuel tanks she has a maximum range of 4,000 nautical miles at 10 knots. She has been fitted with stabilizers to increase on-board comfort when the yacht is at anchor, particularly in rough waters.

Air conditioning offers increased on-board comfort. Nyla also features deck jacuzzi which provides excellent views.
