Design & Construction
Designed around an aluminium hull and superstructure she features a 10.7m beam and a 4.5m draft. The yacht is built over 2 decks with an internal volume of 460 GT (Gross Tonnes).
Construction started in late 2002. Launched in December 2004 this yacht undertook sea trials over the following months. She was delivered to her owners in April 2005.
Exterior Design
Betty Boop's exterior design is the result of a collaboration between Perini Navi and naval architect Ron Holland. Her aluminium hull features a classic ketch silhouette, finished in clean, uninterrupted lines. The bow has a traditional, seamanlike presence, while a graceful sheer flows aft to a forward-leaning transom. The hull’s proportions strike a balance between elegance and practical seakeeping, sitting above a moderate freeboard.
Above deck, the rounded deckhouse flows up to a flying bridge, which stretches aft into a generous sun deck. This elevated space provides shade for the cockpit beneath, which is set slightly lower into the main deck for improved shelter from wind and spray. The flying bridge itself is fitted with gently curved settees and a fully equipped bar beneath a removable bimini. Sunbathers will appreciate the large, raised spa pool on the aft deck, which is surrounded by soft mattresses and a teak spillway. The guest cockpit features a circular dining table that can expand to host up to 24 guests, paired with a full-service bar and a teppanyaki barbecue for relaxed gatherings. Glass windbreaks can be raised at the touch of a button to keep the cockpit sheltered in blustery weather.
Tenders are cleverly stowed to avoid cluttering the deck. The foredeck conceals a well sized to hold a 6.3-meter (20.7ft) Novurania RIB, while a second tender is kept in a spacious garage at the stern, accessible through a hinged door. This stern door also serves as an adjustable bathing platform, which can be set at various heights above the waterline for easy access to the sea.
Performance under sail has been prioritised throughout the design. Fully retractable bow and stern thrusters are used to reduce drag when not in use, and a single Hundested variable pitch propeller, supported by a P-bracket, adds to her hydrodynamic efficiency. Her fixed fin-and-bulb keel with a draught of 4.5 meters (14.8ft) provides stability and reliability, with small winglets on the bulb enhancing windward ability when the yacht heels over. The overall package is topped off with a lightweight carbon ketch rig and sail wardrobe by North Sails’ Italian loft.
Interior Design
The interiors, by Rémi Tessier, step away from the traditional sailing yacht aesthetic, opting instead for a crisp and contemporary palette. Rich, dark woods are offset by light sycamore, cream leather, and polished stainless steel accents. The main saloon opens up, running the full 17 meters (55.8ft) forward to the wheelhouse windows, avoiding the usual compartmentalised layout.
Furnishings are arranged with flexibility in mind. A semicircular leather sofa rides smoothly on rails, allowing it to be repositioned to suit different occasions or views. Cabinets neatly wrap around the stairway to the accommodation deck, while a bar and a forward dining table form the heart of the saloon’s social space. The dark wenge flooring and floating stainless steel furniture reinforce the modern feel, and hidden cove lighting gently draws attention to the architecture.
In the bar area, wine coolers and storage are neatly tucked behind gracefully curved panels that slide away at a touch. The bar itself is supported by stainless pillars, appearing to float above the floor. Subtle lighting schemes add warmth and intimacy, highlighting both the materials and the craft.
When not underway, the wheelhouse features a sleek, glass-clad dash, free of visible instruments. At a moment’s notice, seven integrated screens and a suite of controls rise into view through the glass, turning the space into a command centre for navigation and systems management. The guest settee here can be lowered electrically for improved sightlines ahead, and there is an ebony-topped chart table for traditional plotting.
Throughout, the finishing details elevate the experience. Stainless steel hardware, soft leather drawers, and hand-finished cabinetry all play a role in creating an inviting and sophisticated environment. A blend of white leather, teak, and polished steel ensures a subtle connection between indoor and outdoor spaces, keeping the design language cohesive from bow to stern.
Accommodation
Parsifal III comfortably hosts up to 12 guests across a total of six cabins, offering a layout that caters to families or groups of friends. The full-beam master suite, located aft, is a private retreat. It features a king-sized bed dressed in a Fendi bedspread and luxurious mink fur. The open-plan master bathroom includes a spa bath, a dressing table, two heads, and three wooden basins. There is also the option to divide the master suite, creating an additional stateroom with its own television for added flexibility.
Guest accommodation is made up of two double cabins and two twins, each with Pullman berths for extra capacity. Cabins are accented with black-and-white photography and thoughtful detailing, such as leather-lined drawers and high-quality bed linens. An added touch of technology comes in the form of television screens concealed behind mirrored glass, only visible when switched on, keeping the look tidy and uncluttered.
Crew quarters are designed for both practicality and comfort, with space for up to nine. There’s a spacious mess for the team, a captain’s double-bedded cabin, a triple-bunk cabin, and two twin-bunk cabins, each with private en suite showers. This arrangement ensures both privacy and efficiency for the crew, supporting smooth operation on board whether underway or at anchor.
Performance & Capabilities
Parsifal III is set up for long-distance voyaging and smooth sailing, with a focus on performance both under sail and power. When required, she can be powered by a single Caterpillar C30 diesel engine, a 12-cylinder unit producing 1,258hp at 2,300rpm. This engine is positioned amidships in a dedicated engine room to optimise the yacht’s balance and reduce pitching.
The propulsion system pairs this main engine with a Hundested variable pitch propeller, mounted on a relatively short shaft and supported by a P-bracket to reduce drag. This setup is designed to enhance fuel efficiency and maintain low resistance through the water, aligning with the yacht’s sailing-first philosophy. When maneuvering in tight spaces, fully retractable bow and stern thrusters provide precise handling, and retract out of the water while underway to keep drag to a minimum.
Under sail, the lightweight aluminium hull and carbon fibre ketch rig combine to make the most of breezy conditions. The yacht’s sail wardrobe, built by North Sails in Italy, is selected for power and reliability, and has already demonstrated the ability to top 18 knots in the right conditions, with potential for even greater speeds. The fixed fin-and-bulb keel, drawing 4.5 meters (14.8ft), offers sturdy performance, and the addition of winglets on the bulb provides extra lift and improves windward ability when heeled over.
Amenities
Air conditioning offers increased on-board comfort. Parsifal III also features a deck jacuzzi for cooling off and an inviting spread of sunpads.
