Design & Construction
Designed around a displacement steel hull and an aluminium superstructure she features a 9.14m beam and a 3.1m draft. The yacht is built over 3 decks with an internal volume of 651 GT (Gross Tonnes).
Construction started in mid 1990. She was delivered to her owners in March 1993.
Exterior Design
The 56.1m (184ft) Shalawaty was built by Oceanco as the Dutch shipyard's first launched yacht, with exterior design by Gerhard Gilgenast. Her profile combines a steel hull and aluminium superstructure with long horizontal glazing, sweeping deck lines and a clean white finish that gives the yacht a timeless appearance.
Outdoor living is a major focus. The sundeck features a large Jacuzzi with a waterfall-style spillover effect, surrounded by sun loungers and open relaxation space. Multiple alfresco dining areas are spread across the decks, while the upper deck aft provides a sheltered lounge with adjoining sunpads and uninterrupted sea views.
The foredeck is arranged around a Jacuzzi surrounded by built-in sun lounges, creating a private retreat with panoramic views forward. From the photographs, this area forms one of the yacht's most distinctive social spaces, with curved seating integrated into the deck around the spa pool.
A spacious beach club and swim platform place guests close to the water, with easy access for swimming and watersports. The yacht carries a selection of toys including Seabobs and Jet Skis, making the stern area a natural hub when at anchor.
Large open deck spaces throughout the yacht support entertaining on a scale that remains impressive even by modern standards, with ample room for dining, lounging and social gatherings across several levels.
Interior Design
Donald Starkey designed the interior around an Art Deco theme inspired by The Wellesley hotel in London's Knightsbridge. Rich materials, geometric detailing and carefully selected finishes create a look that feels distinct from many contemporary superyachts.
The main saloon is finished in soft grey and cream tones, with warm wood panelling, large panoramic windows and black-and-white photography adding character throughout the space. Natural light floods the room through expansive glazing, while a large television allows the saloon to double as a cinema space.
Forward of the saloon is a formal dining room with a round table for up to ten guests. The Art Deco styling continues here, creating a clear connection between the yacht's main social spaces.
One of the most distinctive interior spaces is the dedicated Cigar Club Lounge. Designed as a private retreat, it features leather seating, rich woodwork, a glass-enclosed humidor displaying vintage cigars, snakeskin-embossed whisky cabinets, crystal glassware and a small study area.
Throughout the yacht, premium materials include gold-veined black marble and Arabescato Corchia marble, while Hermès amenities add another layer of detail to the guest experience.
Accommodation
Shalawaty accommodates up to 12 guests in six cabins and carries up to 12 crew members. The layout includes an owner's suite and a convertible twin cabin on the upper deck, a further convertible twin on the main deck, and a second master suite, a double cabin and a twin cabin on the lower deck.
