Design & Construction

Designed around a displacement ice class steel hull and an aluminium superstructure she features a 8.53m beam and a 3.43m draft. The yacht has an internal volume of 432 GT (Gross Tonnes).

Construction started in mid 2008. Launched in June 2012 this yacht undertook sea trials over the following months. She was delivered to her owners in May 2013.

Exterior Design

ZeXplorer is a rugged expedition yacht with an emerald green hull (Awlgrip "Donegal Green"), white superstructure, and a distinctive red and white boot stripe. Built with an ice-strengthened steel hull and aluminum superstructure, she’s designed for adventure, capable of cruising up to 7,500 nautical miles. The flared bow enhances seakeeping, while the high bulwarks, sturdy guardrails, and wide walkways offer safe, secure passage around the decks.

The sundeck brings a surprising touch of luxury, featuring a hot tub, a large dining table shaded by the hardtop, a fully equipped bar with a grill, wine cooler, and storage. The surrounding varnished woodwork showcases fine craftsmanship, with polished finishes extending to the bar stools and cabinetry. Forward on the bridge deck, there’s an outdoor gym with equipment relocated during a major 2022 refit, plus storage and bench seating. The boat deck carries two tenders (7.3m/24ft and 7.9m/26ft) separated by a hydraulic knuckle crane, with additional gear such as a beach lander for shallow landings.

The foredeck is practical and workmanlike, fitted with twin windlasses, large mooring bollards, fairleads, and a forward mast carrying lights and radar scanners. The bridge deck layout is symmetrical, offering safe access along both sides, while wing stations and a Portuguese bridge arrangement forward ensure clear sightlines for maneuvering. The cockpit has been expanded for alfresco dining, featuring a large teak table and seating for 12, with varnished cupboards for service. The fixed bathing platform aft provides ample space for launching water toys, equipped with a deployable swim step and rod holders for fishing. The central transom door opens into a spacious lazarette, ideal for storing Seabobs, diving gear, mountain bikes, and more.

This rugged explorer yacht carries twin tenders and a beach lander for true expedition versatility.

Interior Design

ZeXplorer’s interior is an inviting mix of warm mahogany joinery, white headliners, and light wool carpets, contrasting with darker oak flooring. The main saloon feels like a private club, with twin L-shaped white sofas, maple and oak coffee tables, and large windows filling the space with natural light. The adjoining dining area features a square marble table for 12, surrounded by mahogany credenzas for easy service. Attention to detail is evident in the ceiling design and integrated artwork, adding depth and character to the interior.

The galley is a standout feature, blending commercial-grade equipment with a homely feel. It’s fitted with a Subzero fridge and freezer, a Viking range, professional Miele dishwasher, and a full-height wine cooler. The layout includes a chef’s prep area and a service counter, keeping workflow smooth during meal preparation. Storage is generous, and the design feels more like a large American country kitchen than a commercial galley.

Up on the bridge deck, the sky lounge is a bright, airy space with a white satin finish, large glass windows, and grey curtains. A plush L-shaped sofa, a card table, and a Samsung flat-screen TV create a relaxed atmosphere, while a day head and shared bathroom add convenience. The bridge itself is a blend of traditional and modern, equipped with triple Stidd chairs, a Böning ship management system, and TimeZero software. Reverse countered pilothouse windows provide excellent visibility, while the wing stations make slow-speed maneuvering easy. Guests can join the crew in the bridge, thanks to additional seating that invites them into the action.

Accommodation

ZeXplorer accommodates up to 12 guests across six cabins, plus dedicated crew spaces for eight. The full-beam owner’s suite is located aft for maximum stability and reduced noise. This expansive space features a king-size bed, a large desk, a two-person sofa, and a substantial Samsung TV. Three oversized windows on each side frame panoramic sea views, while the en suite bathroom includes a jacuzzi tub, a glass-enclosed steam shower, dual sinks, and two walk-in wardrobes.

Guest accommodation includes two queen staterooms and two doubles with single berths. The portside forward cabin can convert to a queen, while the starboard forward cabin includes a Pullman berth for added flexibility. Each cabin offers a private en suite bathroom with a shower, a unique marble finish, and generous storage, creating a comfortable retreat for all guests. A pantry on the lower deck allows guests to help themselves to drinks and snacks without disturbing the crew.

The captain’s cabin is located on the main deck and includes a double berth, private en suite, and large windows. The remaining crew quarters are on the lower deck, offering three double cabins with en suite facilities, a dedicated laundry area with commercial washers and dryers, and a walk-in fridge and freezer for extended provisioning. The crew mess, located on the main deck, is unusually spacious and welcoming, featuring a large dining area, mini galley, and windows that offer a bright, comfortable space for downtime.

Performance & Capabilities

ZeXplorer is powered by twin Caterpillar C32 ACERT engines, each delivering 660hp at 1,800 rpm. This setup, combined with traditional shaft drives (a change from the original azimuth pods), gives the yacht a top speed of 13.5 knots and a cruising speed of 11.5 knots. At an economical 10 knots, ZeXplorer offers a maximum range of 4,520 nautical miles, while running on a single engine at 9.5 knots can stretch the range to an impressive 7,400 nautical miles. With a fuel capacity of 58,863 litres, she’s built for long-haul exploration.

Stabilizers enhance comfort at anchor, and the yacht is designed for practical, self-sufficient operation. The engine room is accessed via a wide, shallow staircase with soft treads and sturdy railings - no ladders here. Once inside, the space is highly organized, with equipment like the hydraulic pack for the Quantum fin stabilizers, twin Northern Lights generators, and a watermaker ensuring extended cruising capability. A dedicated workbench with a vice and tool storage is installed for the engineer, while a large lazarette holds gear.

The sky lounge aboard ZeXplorer combines bright finishes with panoramic views and plush seating.

Amenities

The yacht features a well-equipped gym, allowing her guests to keep up their fitness regimes at sea. Air conditioning offers increased on-board comfort. Zexplorer also features deck jacuzzi which provides excellent views.
