Developed through a collaboration between Michael Peters Yacht Design, Bernard Olesinski Limited and Princess Yachts' in-house design team led by Andy Lawrence, the C48 introduces a new centre-console platform to the British builder's portfolio. The Princess C48 Open OB is Princess' first outboard-powered model and uses Michael Peters' patented Stepped Vee Ventilated Tunnel (SVVT) hull.
Open layout brings guests closer to the water
The motor yacht centres its design around a fully open main deck beneath a hardtop, with a walkaround arrangement allowing guests to move between the cockpit and foredeck. Aft, a large sunpad creates the principal relaxation area, while forward-facing seating with a table and manually operated folding seats to port and starboard provide additional social spaces.
An exterior galley is positioned between the guest areas, incorporating forward and aft wet bars, an electric grill, drawer refrigerator and sink. Triple seats form the helm station, while further seating is provided on the foredeck.
Flexible accommodation below deck
Despite the C48 Open's focus on outdoor living, Princess has incorporated overnight accommodation below deck, with the model providing berths for up to four guests. The standard arrangement includes a lower saloon with a convertible dinette, an aft cabin, lobby and day head.
Owners can alter the arrangement to suit how they intend to use the boat, with options including a lower galley or a forward cabin in place of the standard saloon. This gives the Open version scope to move from predominantly day boating towards overnight cruising.
First outboard-powered Princess
The new yacht marks several technical firsts for Princess. In addition to being the builder's first outboard-powered model, it introduces a stepped hull to the Princess range and becomes its fastest model to date.
Outboard propulsion is offered with either triple Mercury V10 400hp Verado engines or triple Mercury V12 600hp Verados. The latter configuration takes the C48 Open to a stated top speed of 54 knots, while fuel capacity inboard is 1,500 litres and outboard is 2,346 litres.
The SVVT hull channels air beneath the running surface to reduce drag and create lift, with the hull geometry developed to support the C48's higher-speed performance.
The Princess C Class range
In addition to the C48 Open OB, the Princess C Class currently comprises the 15m C48 IB, 15m C48 Open IB and 15m C48 OB, providing a choice of open and alternative propulsion configurations.
