Feadship’s 119m Breakthrough: Watch the Most Expensive Yacht for Sale in the Med

The world’s first hydrogen fuel cell-powered superyacht, superyacht Breakthrough, has made her maiden voyage to the Mediterranean and is now anchored off Monaco.

Built by Feadship and delivered in May 2025, the 118m vessel is currently the most expensive yacht for sale known to be cruising the region, and among the most technically advanced ever constructed.

Pioneering a Cleaner Future at Sea

Breakthrough is the largest yacht ever built by Feadship and the first in the world to integrate a fully operational hydrogen fuel cell system. Naval architecture is by De Voogt, with both interior and exterior design from RWD. Her engineering sets a new benchmark for sustainable luxury at sea.

At her core is a cryogenic hydrogen storage system, holding 92 cubic meters of liquid hydrogen in a double-walled tank. This fuels 16 PowerCell H2 generators, providing silent, emission-free power for all hotel systems and up to 10 knots of cruising. The setup allows for a full week of zero-emission anchoring. For transoceanic range, her propulsion is supported by MTU generators burning Hydro-treated Vegetable Oil (HVO) and methanol, which can also be reformed into hydrogen onboard.

She is powered by ABB Azipod drives, has a top speed of 17 knots, and can cover 6,500 nautical miles at a cruising speed of 14 knots.

Breakthrough's Exterior: A Bold New Standard

RWD’s exterior design emphasizes openness, featuring an extraordinary number of hull openings: 14 balconies, seven large platforms, and five shell doors. These extend at the press of a button and blend seamlessly into the yacht’s modern profile when closed.

Her deep navy hull and reverse bow cut a commanding figure on the water, softened by a bright white superstructure and long, clean sheerline. With a gross tonnage of 7,247 GT, her five decks rise above the waterline, including a vast sundeck with helipad, forward jacuzzi, and shaded lounging areas.

At the aft, the main deck centers around a dramatic 8.2-meter infinity pool with a moveable glass floor and a contraflow system, paired with a hot tub and twin staircases leading down to the expansive beach club. This area also houses the semi-submerged Nemo Lounge, offering panoramic underwater views from inside the yacht.

Breakthought's Interior: Light, Space, and Seclusion

The interior of Breakthrough was created to feel like a relaxed, luxurious townhouse by the sea. Natural textures such as rattan, travertine, limed oak, and eucalyptus are paired with soft leathers and pale marble to create a warm, coastal palette.

A sweeping atrium staircase lined with bookshelves wraps around a central elevator, while floor-to-ceiling glass throughout ensures light floods in from all angles. The motor yacht includes a cinema, library, spa, gym, massage room, and medical suite.

Private lifestyle spaces are scattered across all decks, including coffee nooks, games corners, and intimate dining areas. The bridge deck, for instance, features a games niche, while the lower deck includes a private dining room with a sea terrace and ensuite stateroom.

The yacht accommodates 30 guests across 15 cabins and carries up to 44 crew. Eight guest cabins on the main deck can convert into four VIPs for added flexibility.

On Display in Monaco

Spotted at anchor off the coast of Monaco, Breakthrough is turning heads in a region already packed with some of the world’s most impressive yachts. Her arrival follows recent appearances in Gibraltar and Antibes, after her departure from the Netherlands.

Breakthrough currently ranks 29th in the YachtBuyer YB100 list of the world’s biggest yachts by gross tonnage, and 36th by length in the Top 100. At 7,247 GT, she is larger than many of her peers despite being just under 119 meters in length.

According to YachtBuyer Market Watch, the world’s largest yacht database, Feadship currently has four yachts in build - including the 80m Valor, the 100m Feadship 824, and the 72m Stella M.

Breakthrough is on the market with Edmiston & Company and has a price upon request.
