Design & Construction

Designed around a displacement steel hull and an aluminium superstructure she features a 14.2m beam and a 3.9m draft. The yacht is built over 4 decks with an internal volume of 2,159 GT (Gross Tonnes).

This was the sixth yacht built on the Custom design. The yacht was designed and constructed in compliance with the Lloyds Register technical standards.

Exterior Design

Few yachts have shifted superyacht design in the way Alfa Nero did. When she arrived in 2007, the yacht world had never really seen anything like this. The black steel hull alone felt radical at the time, especially paired with the sweeping white superstructure and low, stretched profile from Nuvolari Lenard. Even now, nearly twenty years later, she still looks modern rather than nostalgic.

At 82m (269ft), Alfa Nero has huge physical presence, but the design avoids bulk. The overhangs stay tight, the stern sits low to the water, and the glazing forms long dark bands across the profile so the yacht feels leaner than her 2,159GT volume would suggest. The bow carries a strong, almost naval look with its dark hull and sharp entry, while the upper decks taper elegantly toward the stern.

The aft deck became one of the most copied yacht spaces ever built. The infinity pool was groundbreaking at launch and still feels dramatic today. Water spills over a sloped glass wall at the stern, while hydraulic engineering allows the entire pool floor to rise flush with the deck and convert the space into a touch-and-go helipad rated for helicopters up to 5,000kg.

Around the pool sits an enormous entertainment terrace with multiple seating zones, oversized dining tables, a large bar and shaded lounge areas beneath the overhang. The deck arrangement feels layered rather than flat, so movement through the space has a natural flow while guests remain connected to the sea throughout. Jack Haines described it as one of the most iconic welcomes in yachting, and it is hard to disagree.

Higher up, the upper deck overlooks the pool terrace and gives guests a quieter vantage point with lounge seating, dining spaces and another service bar. Above that sits the bridge deck, positioned unusually high for a yacht of this era. Instead of placing another leisure deck above the bridge, Alfa Nero puts the wheelhouse at the very top of the yacht, so visibility from the helm is exceptional. Aft of the bridge sits a full gym opening directly onto an exterior Jacuzzi terrace.

The owner’s private foredeck remains one of the yacht’s loveliest spaces. Accessible only through the master suite, it includes a secluded terrace with sunpads, dining table and private spa pool looking out over the bow. Even on a yacht this large, true privacy can be difficult to achieve, but Alfa Nero manages it beautifully.

Elsewhere, the yacht carries a fold-down spa terrace at sea level, expansive side decks, tender garages, multiple boarding points and a huge inventory of toys and chase craft, including a 13.45m (44.1ft) Vanquish VQ45 chase boat and several Yamaha WaveRunners.

Alfa Nero's approach to yacht design symbolizes the future of luxury yachting and sets her apart as a vessel of unmatched comfort, luxury, and style.

Interior Design

Alberto Pinto’s interior still feels daring today because it refuses to fade quietly into the background. Where many modern yachts lean heavily on pale minimalism, Alfa Nero embraces contrast, texture and drama. Dark wenge panels, glossy lacquer finishes, striped timber flooring, silver leaf detailing and bold contemporary artwork all combine into an interior that feels theatrical without becoming heavy.

The main saloon is designed almost like a contemporary lounge club. Large sofas gather around sculptural coffee tables, while a black lacquer Pleyel piano sits among vibrant art pieces and textured wood panelling. Glass doors open directly onto the aft deck, so the saloon and pool terrace become one huge entertainment area when opened fully.

Further forward, the formal dining room balances grandeur with warmth. Ebony wall panels inset with silver leaf sit alongside herringbone parquet floors and oversized dining tables. Smaller informal dining and games areas soften the formality, while guest circulation through the yacht feels remarkably natural for a vessel of this scale.

The upper saloon takes on a lighter atmosphere with white lacquered walls, large windows and softer furnishings. Concentric maple and Macassar ebony floor detailing gives the room movement, while hidden crew routes allow service to happen discreetly in the background.

One of Alfa Nero’s greatest strengths is how varied the onboard experience feels from deck to deck. There are intimate corners for quiet evenings, huge entertaining spaces for large groups, cinema systems, lounges, bars, wellness areas and private retreats, but none of it feels repetitive. Even transitional spaces such as stair lobbies and corridors carry unusual materials, artwork and lighting treatments.

The lower deck spa remains especially impressive. A fold-down sea terrace opens directly at water level beside the treatment room, so guests can move from massage table to the sea within moments. It still feels fresh as an idea today.

Technically, Alfa Nero has kept pace with modern expectations through extensive refit work completed in 2024. Entertainment systems now include Crestron-controlled AV, Plex streaming, Starlink connectivity, integrated CCTV displays and extensive onboard networking throughout guest areas.

Accommodation

Alfa Nero accommodates 12 guests across six main staterooms plus an additional staff cabin, while up to 28 crew support operations across the yacht.

The owner’s suite occupies the forward section of the upper deck and feels closer to a private apartment than a conventional yacht cabin. The layout unfolds across several distinct rooms, beginning with a large private study and lounge area before leading through dressing spaces and oversized bathrooms toward the bedroom itself. Large curved windows wrap around the forward section of the suite, giving the owner panoramic sea views directly from bed.

A private exterior terrace extends the suite outside, complete with seating areas and its own Jacuzzi pool. The arrangement allows the owner complete separation from the guest accommodation below, while separate access routes also allow staff movement without disturbing the suite.

Most guest accommodation sits unusually high on the yacht, positioned on the main deck rather than deep within the hull. This gives the cabins excellent natural light as well as noticeably better sea views. Four guest staterooms occupy this deck, including a huge forward VIP suite that can divide into two cabins through a sliding partition arrangement for additional flexibility.

An additional VIP suite sits on the lower deck beside the spa area and sea terrace. This cabin has direct access to the wellness space, so guests can step almost straight from the suite to the fold-down waterside platform.

Throughout the guest accommodation, the styling follows the same Alberto Pinto approach seen elsewhere on the yacht. Cabins are individually colour coded with bold fabrics, lacquered finishes and oversized bathrooms, while integrated entertainment systems, large wardrobes and generous seating areas reinforce the sense of volume.

Crew accommodation is extensive and carefully planned for a yacht operating at this level. Separate crew circulation routes, dedicated crew messes, officer dining spaces, crew offices and a duplex engine room all support long-range operation and high-end charter service.
