80m Oceanco Y729 Superyacht Heads To Outfitting Facility In Alblasserdam

The 80m Oceanco Y729 superyacht has entered a new phase of construction, with the yacht now transferred from the shipyard’s facilities in Zwijndrecht to Alblasserdam for outfitting.

With her steel hull and aluminum superstructure assembled and pre-outfitted, the move of the Oceanco yacht marks a key milestone as the project advances toward launch, sea trials, and scheduled delivery in 2027.

At 80 meters with a gross tonnage of 2,600 GT, Project Y729 sits within the upper tier of modern custom yacht builds. Exterior design is by Espen Øino International, interior design by Zuretti Design, with naval architecture developed by Oceanco in collaboration with Lateral Naval Architects. Arrow Monaco is acting as technical representative throughout the build.

A Major Step Toward Completio

The transfer to Alblasserdam signals the transition from structural construction into the detailed outfitting stage, where interior spaces, onboard systems, and finishing work take shape. This phase typically defines the character and usability of a yacht, translating design intent into livable spaces and operational readiness.

According to Oceanco, the project has progressed at a notably fast pace, supported by the use of an established technical framework and a highly engaged ownership team. Project Director Erwin de Looff points to early alignment as a key factor. He notes that the technical backbone in place allowed the shipyard and project team to move quickly from concept into execution, while the owners’ understanding of complex projects helped maintain momentum across disciplines.

Introducing Oceanco’s Simply Custom Platform

Project Y729 is the first yacht developed under Oceanco’s Simply Custom platform. The concept is intended to shorten build timelines while retaining the flexibility expected of a fully custom superyacht. Rather than starting from a blank technical slate, the platform provides a proven foundation for yachts in the 80-meter range, spanning approximately 2,500 to 2,700 GT.

Within this framework, owners retain freedom to shape exterior lines, interior layout, and onboard features to suit their priorities. The approach is aimed at reducing technical risk and early-stage engineering time, while preserving the craftsmanship and detailing associated with Oceanco builds.

For the shipyard, Simply Custom also allows resources to be focused more heavily on execution quality and coordination, rather than reengineering core systems for each new project. Project Y729 serves as the first real-world test case of how that philosophy translates into build progress.

Design and Onboard Arrangement

The exterior lines of the motor yacht come from Espen Øino International, a studio known for balanced proportions and clean profiles across a wide range of large yachts. While detailed visuals have not been released, the design is expected to follow Øino’s established approach, prioritizing long sightlines, practical deck use, and a restrained aesthetic suited to global cruising.

Zuretti Design is responsible for the interior, with accommodation planned for up to 14 guests. Crew quarters will support up to 28 personnel, indicating a layout designed for extended voyages and full service levels. The volume allows for generous guest spaces while maintaining operational separation between guest and crew circulation.

A First Yacht for Experienced Charter Clients

For the owners, Project Y729 represents a transition from long-term chartering into ownership. Having spent years experiencing different yachts as charter guests, they approached the project with a clear sense of how they wanted to use their own vessel.

Their brief focused on creating a setting where family time takes priority, with spaces designed for shared use rather than formal separation. While the finished yacht remains some distance away, the owners have emphasized their enjoyment of the process itself, viewing each construction milestone as part of a longer journey rather than a means to an end.

Project Y729 will feature a diesel-electric propulsion system, reflecting a continued shift toward hybridized power solutions in this size category. The setup supports quieter operation at lower speeds and improved efficiency across a range of operating modes.

A Busy Year For Oceanco And A Clear Direction Ahead

Project Y729’s move into outfitting comes during a defining year for Oceanco. In November 2025, the shipyard delivered the 111 meter diesel-electric superyacht Leviathan, now the third largest yacht ever built by Oceanco. Commissioned by Valve co-founder Gabe Newell, Leviathan drew attention not only for her scale and advanced engineering, but for a human-centered design philosophy that reshaped how space, crew wellbeing, and onboard community were approached.

Earlier in 2025, Newell also acquired Oceanco itself, marking a major shift in ownership and long-term direction. His move from client to owner followed years of close involvement with the yard and signaled a hands-on vision centered on collaboration, engineering depth, and people-first thinking rather than short-term investment returns.

Beyond Y729, Oceanco’s order book remains selective but ambitious. According to YachtBuyer Market Watch, the largest yacht database in the world, the shipyard currently has three superyachts in build, led by the 129.6 meter Project Y727, scheduled for delivery in 2030. With more than 11,000 GT of volume, she will become the largest yacht Oceanco has ever delivered. Upon delivery, her internal volume will place her near 12th globally in the prestigious YachtBuyer’s YB100 ranking of the world’s biggest yachts.

Together, Leviathan, Y729, and Y727 underline a yard focused on scale, technical confidence, and a carefully defined future.
