Design & Construction

Designed around a planing fiberglass hull and a GRP superstructure she features a 6.85m beam and a 2.2m draft. The yacht has an internal volume of 144 GT (Gross Tonnes).

Exterior Design

Balandrau is a 32.6m (107ft) Maiora 31DP, a model that arrived during what many regard as the golden age of the Italian performance flybridge yacht. Balandrau carries many of the styling traits that made Roberto Del Re one of Maiora's defining designers. Del Re spent much of the 1990s and 2000s shaping the yard's visual identity, from high-performance GRP flybridge yachts such as the 31DP series through to larger projects like the 43m Holiday. His work favoured long horizontal lines, low superstructures and dark glazing bands that visually reduced bulk, helping sizeable yachts retain a fast, athletic stance.

One of the most important design features is the raised pilothouse arrangement. Rather than placing the wheelhouse on the main deck and sacrificing valuable guest space, Maiora lifted it onto its own intermediate level. This freed almost the entire main deck for guest use while preserving clear separation between crew operations and social areas. The stepped profile this creates has since become a defining feature of the 31DP.

The elongated teardrop-shaped saloon windows are another hallmark of the design. They give the yacht a sleek, almost automotive appearance, but they also serve a practical role. By stretching natural light deep into the interior while keeping structural supports relatively narrow, the design improves visibility and brightness without compromising hull strength on a yacht capable of sustained high-speed cruising.

The flybridge itself demonstrates how carefully the exterior was planned around Mediterranean use. Its large aft overhang creates a substantial upper deck while simultaneously shading the cockpit below. Twin biminis provide additional protection, allowing the space to function as an outdoor lounge and dining area throughout the day.

Unlike many modern yachts that dedicate large portions of their lower decks to tender garages, Balandrau follows a different approach. Water toys and tenders are carried on deck, preserving valuable internal volume for guest accommodation.

Interior Design

While Balandrau's exterior reflects the performance-focused character of late-2000s Italian yacht design, her interior takes a more restrained approach. Roberto Del Re also shaped the internal spaces, creating an environment that balances warmth, practicality and long-term comfort.

Light oak cabinetry forms the foundation of the design, creating a brighter atmosphere than many contemporary yachts that relied heavily on darker gloss woods. Rich leather detailing introduces contrast throughout the guest areas, while Italian marble bathrooms add a more traditional touch.

The benefits of the raised pilothouse layout become clear inside. With the wheelhouse lifted above the main deck, the saloon stretches uninterrupted through much of the yacht's beam. Large windows flood the room with natural light and create strong visual links with the sea, while the open arrangement allows guests to move easily between lounge and dining areas.

Recent upgrades have focused on keeping the yacht technically current rather than altering the core design. A Gira automation system now allows control of lighting, curtains and other onboard systems through mobile devices, bringing modern convenience to a platform whose underlying architecture has aged exceptionally well.

Unlike many contemporary interiors that chase short-lived trends, Balandrau's design remains rooted in proportion and material quality. The combination of oak joinery, leather finishes and marble surfaces gives the yacht a timeless feel that continues to suit her character as a fast-cruising Mediterranean flagship.

Accommodation

Balandrau accommodates up to eight guests in four ensuite cabins and carries up to five crew.

The owner's suite occupies the aft section of the lower deck, where the yacht reaches its maximum beam. This location provides significantly more floor space than a forward owner's cabin and benefits from the quieter motion often found closer to the vessel's centre of gravity.

A VIP suite sits forward, while a further double cabin and twin cabin complete the guest accommodation. The arrangement reflects the yacht's original brief as a private cruising yacht rather than a high-density charter platform. Space is devoted to cabin comfort rather than maximising guest numbers.

The decision to avoid a lower-deck tender garage plays an important role here. By storing tenders and toys on deck, the designers preserved valuable hull volume for accommodation. As a result, the guest cabins feel larger than many found aboard modern yachts where garages consume significant sections of the lower deck.

Crew quarters accommodate up to five staff, a notably high crew-to-guest ratio for a yacht of this size.

Performance & Capabilities

Powered by twin diesel MTU (16V 2000 M93) 2,400hp engines, motor yacht Balandrau is capable of reaching a top speed of 28 knots, and comfortably cruises at 23 knots. With her 17,385 litre fuel tanks she has a maximum range of 950 nautical miles. Her planing hull design means she is fast and efficient as she slices through the water.
