Sunseeker Announces Up to 200 Redundancies Amid Market Adjustment

Sunseeker International has announced a proposed internal reorganisation that could see around 200 jobs cut, representing approximately 10% of its total workforce.

The planned redundancies follow a broader strategic review aimed at adjusting to a softening of global demand driven by political and economic uncertainty.

Strategic Shift in Support and Management Roles

According to a statement issued to suppliers, the restructure will focus on support, leadership, and management functions, allowing the yacht builder to reallocate resources more efficiently and concentrate investment in areas of greatest strategic importance. The company stated that the plan is not only designed to reduce costs but also to support long-term growth and sustainability.

A formal 45-day consultation process will now begin in line with UK regulations. “We are fully aware of the impact this reorganisation will have on the affected employees,” said CEO Andrea Frabetti. “Our priority now is to approach the consultation process openly and respectfully, providing as much support as possible. I also want to reassure our colleagues, partners and the local community: Sunseeker remains firmly committed to manufacturing in Poole and Portland. These sites are, and will continue to be, at the heart of our operations as we look to the future.”

The company confirmed it will continue to fulfill its global order book and push forward with the development of its new Superyacht range. The announced downsizing represents a complex moment in Sunseeker’s recent history, but the company has reiterated its commitment to build quality and engineering excellence - values it maintains as central to the brand.

Timeline of Prior Disruptions

This latest announcement follows a period of temporary layoffs over the winter. In December 2024, Sunseeker placed up to 250 production staff on short-term leave due to supply chain disruptions, offering either statutory compensation or the use of accrued holiday time.

In early January 2025, around 100 Sunseeker employees were temporarily stood down for two days at 50% pay, with the option to take additional paid leave. All affected workers were back on site by January 27, and no permanent job losses were recorded at that time.

While those measures were described as necessary responses to operational disruptions, the current restructure signals a more permanent shift in strategy, prompted by what the company now frames as a structural downturn in global demand. The focus has moved from short-term production interruptions to a longer-term reshaping of internal roles.

Order Book Continues with Key Yacht Models

Despite the planned redundancies, Sunseeker has confirmed that it will continue to fulfill its global order book.

According to YachtBuyer Market Watch and Intelligence—the largest yacht database in the world—this includes several core superyacht models such as the Sunseeker 95 Yacht, Sunseeker 94 Yacht, and the Sunseeker 100 Yacht

The builder is also progressing with the development of the Sunseeker Ocean 156 Yacht, part of its larger-volume Ocean series.

The proposed redundancies mark a shift from short-term adjustments to a more strategic restructuring at Sunseeker, as the company responds to softer global demand and rising operational pressures. While difficult, the move is paired with a continued focus on core production at Poole and Portland and the development of key models, signaling an intent to streamline internally while staying committed to long-term growth.
