Design & Construction
Designed around a full displacement steel hull and an aluminium superstructure she features a 8.31m beam and a 2.72m draft. The yacht is built over 4 decks with an internal volume of 377 GT (Gross Tonnes).
Exterior Design
Lady Lucy has the sort of proportions that immediately place her in the Dutch custom yacht world of the early 2000s. Delivered by Heesen in 2001 as Jangada, the 39.8m (130.6ft) yacht carries Omega Architects’ long raked bow, relatively low superstructure and broad aft decks over a steel displacement hull. The navy blue hull, white aluminium superstructure and slim red boot stripe give her a particularly handsome profile, and the dark hull also takes some visual weight out of what is a substantial yacht for her length.
The sheer amount of foredeck is striking. Guest spaces are concentrated farther aft, leaving a long working bow with the anchoring gear well forward and clear side decks running back towards the accommodation. It is a layout from an era when yachts of this size still devoted a healthy amount of space to seamanship and deck operations, and it gives Lady Lucy a very different balance from newer 40m yachts built around vast forward lounges.
Aft, the decks become progressively more social. The main deck has a broad covered terrace immediately outside the saloon, while the bridge deck above provides another large outdoor dining and lounging area. The sun deck is around 61m² (657sqft) and carries a Jacuzzi, bar, seating and open deck space, with enough room left over for tender or equipment storage when required.
The lower stern is equally practical. A sizeable garage occupies the aft lower deck, with machinery and technical spaces immediately forward, keeping tender handling and engineering away from the guest accommodation. The swim platform sits low to the water and gives the stern a useful waterside area without trying to turn a yacht designed in 2001 into a modern beach club concept.
Interior Design
Lady Lucy’s interior has much more character than the usual pale wood refit treatment. Velendric designed the original scheme around high gloss reddish timber, richly patterned stone, polished metal and Art Deco influenced detailing, and the dining room in particular has real personality. The geometric ceiling light, circular backed chairs and glossy joinery are quite unapologetic, but they suit the yacht and its period.
The main deck is arranged around a large saloon aft with formal dining farther forward, using the yacht’s beam to create two substantial rooms without breaking the deck into lots of smaller spaces. Large windows run along both sides and bring more light into what could otherwise have been a fairly dark material palette.
A central service core keeps the galley and crew routes close to the dining room, and a dumbwaiter links the galley with the upper deck. That is the sort of detail that earns its keep during service, particularly when meals are being served on several decks at once.
The bridge deck adds another full size guest lounge, so the yacht has two proper indoor social spaces rather than asking the main saloon to cover everything. An elevator also connects the lower deck through to the sun deck, an unusual feature on a yacht just under 40m and especially useful for owners or guests who prefer not to rely on the stairs.
Accommodation
Lady Lucy accommodates eight guests in four ensuite cabins, with the owner’s suite forward on the main deck and three guest cabins below.
The owner’s suite is the star of the arrangement. At around 41m² (441sqft), it uses the full beam and includes a private study, dressing space and large bathroom. Its position forward keeps it well separated from the main saloon and the busiest guest areas aft.
The lower deck has a second full beam VIP suite, which gives another couple considerably more space than the usual guest cabin at this length. Two further guest cabins sit nearby, one double and one twin, all with their own bathrooms.
Crew accommodation is positioned forward on the lower deck, with space for up to seven.
Performance & Capabilities
Powered by twin diesel Caterpillar (3412C DITA) 12-cylinder 825hp engines running at 2100rpm, motor yacht Lady Lucy is capable of reaching a top speed of 12 knots, and comfortably cruises at 10 knots. With her 46,397 litre fuel tanks she has a maximum range of 3,500 nautical miles at 10 knots making her well capable of long range and transatlantic voyages.
