Design & Construction
Designed around a planing GRP hull and superstructure she features a 7.38m beam and a 1.8m draft. The yacht is built over 3 decks with an internal volume of 185 GT (Gross Tonnes).
This was the first yacht built on the Viking 93MY design. Launched in June 2017 this yacht undertook sea trials over the following months. She was delivered to her owners in August 2017.
Exterior Design
Obsession is a Viking 93 Motor Yacht, so the profile carries clear sportfisher DNA even though the layout is built for cruising. The superstructure sweeps aft in one clean motion, and the dark glazing runs in long bands through the white topsides, which gives the yacht a fast, low look despite the volume inside. From the side, the bow is long and fine, the foredeck stays clean and uncluttered, and the flybridge hardtop and arch keep the whole silhouette light and purposeful.
That sportfisher influence runs deeper than styling. The hull comes from Michael Peters Yacht Design, and it was developed to give the 28.5m (93.5ft) flagship the same sort of confidence Viking owners expect from the builder’s enclosed fishing boats. The result is a motor yacht with a reported top speed of more than 27 knots and a fast cruise in the 21 to 24 knot range, so it has genuine pace as well as range for family cruising.
Outside, the layout makes a strong case for American-style outdoor living. The aft cockpit has deep U-shaped seating wrapped around the transom, and twin tables can stay separate for easier access or open out into one large banquet table. Up on the bridge deck, Viking gives this yacht one of its best social spaces, with a bar set right at the threshold between the interior lounge and the aft deck. The powered window drops into the bar and the bi-folding glass door opens beside it, so the whole space turns into one sheltered indoor-outdoor zone.
The foredeck is also used properly. There is a forward lounge with a sofa and sunpad, and removable carbon-fibre poles can add shade when needed. Skylights above bring extra light into the VIP suite below, while the surrounding deck feels open and secure. On the flybridge, the layout adds another layer of outdoor living, with loose furniture, a wet bar, grill and a sunroof over the helm, along with the sort of visibility that suits long passages as much as day cruising.
A hydraulic fold-down balcony on the starboard side of the main saloon adds one more connection to the water, and the bulwark drops down beside sliding glass doors to create a terrace off the dining area. At the stern, the tender sits in a transom garage instead of taking over the bridge deck, so the upper entertaining spaces stay free for guests.
Interior Design
Inside, Obsession keeps the broad Viking brief of big rooms, strong systems and solid finish quality, but the atmosphere is softer than the sportfishing background might suggest. Walnut joinery, engineered wood flooring from Avalon, thick carpet, Caesarstone surfaces and powered curtains give the yacht a warm, polished feel, while the detailing has the kind of precision Viking owners expect. Doors latch cleanly, drawers close with weight behind them, and the whole interior has that properly built feel that comes from a yard used to hard offshore use.
The main saloon is large and open, with generous seating arranged around a central lounge. Dark timber furniture and pale upholstery keep the contrast crisp, and the glazing brings in a lot of light. On the starboard side, the sliding glass doors open to the fold-down balcony, so the room gains a waterside terrace and a much stronger link to the sea when the yacht is at anchor.
Forward of the saloon, the dining area seats eight and has a more formal tone without feeling shut off. Built-in storage lines the perimeter, and the position beside the balcony means this part of the room can feel open on two sides once the doors are back. It is a clever bit of planning, and it stops the dining area from feeling like a sealed interior box.
The galley is one of the defining spaces on board. Viking uses a true country-kitchen layout, and it feels big enough for daily life, not just service. A raised dinette sits under the forward windows, four stools line the island, and the 2.1m Sub-Zero refrigeration immediately tells you this is a yacht designed around long stays aboard. There is also a side deck door for provisioning, so crew can load stores straight into the galley without dragging everything through guest areas.
Up on the bridge deck, the enclosed skybridge adds another full lounge. There is seating for five at the helm, a proper bar area, a pop-up television, and enough glazing to keep the space bright. Open the aft door, lower the bar window, slide the sunroof back, and it shifts from enclosed lounge to open-air entertaining deck very quickly. It feels like a second saloon, helm and terrace rolled into one.
Below, even the crew areas and engine room reflect the same approach. The crew mess is compact but well planned, the cabins feel bright rather than tucked away, and the engine room has excellent walkaround access around the twin MTU V12s. For a yacht of this size, that matters. It is part of the reason Viking owners tend to talk about build quality with a lot of conviction.
Accommodation
Obsession accommodates 10 guests in five cabins, with 3 crew. The full-beam master suite sits amidships on its own level and feels notably separate from the rest of the guest accommodation. It has a king-size bed, a large television, a proper desk or meeting table, a second vanity area, heavy built-in storage, and a substantial walk-in wardrobe. The en suite has dual vanities, a private head compartment and a large walk-in shower, so it has the scale and privacy expected from an owner’s cabin on a much larger yacht.
Forward, the VIP suite makes the most of its position in the bow. Skylights above the berth bring in extra daylight, and the room has enough volume for full-height wardrobes, large drawers and a proper en suite with a generous shower. It feels closer to a second master than a compromise guest room, which is important on a yacht meant for family cruising or two-couple use.
The remaining guest accommodation sits on the lower deck. One guest cabin has a double berth and unusually good dressing space, so it reads like a boutique hotel room. Another has twin bunks with Pullmans, which gives Obsession the flexibility to take children or extra guests without forcing the whole layout into bunks-only territory. A further double cabin completes the lower deck arrangement, and the guest bathrooms are finished to the same standard as the rest of the yacht, with marble surfaces and good shower volume.
Performance & Capabilities
Powered by twin diesel MTU (12V2000 M96L) 1,945hp engines, motor yacht Obsession is capable of reaching a top speed of 23 knots, and comfortably cruises at 19 knots. Her planing hull design means she is fast and efficient as she slices through the water.
Amenities
The yacht can house plenty of nautical toys and accessories, with a well-appointed tender garage for storing her impressive locker. Air conditioning offers increased on-board comfort. Obsession also features an inviting spread of sunpads.
