Latest Viking 90C Sportsfisher Yacht Heads for Sea Trials in New Jersey

The 20th Viking 90C sportsfisher yacht has reached a significant construction milestone after emerging from Viking Yachts' production facility in New Gretna, New Jersey.

The latest Viking 90C was recently moved from the production hall and transferred to the shipyard's Make Ready Dock, where final inspections, fueling, systems checks, and commissioning work will take place ahead of sea trials and delivery.

The Largest Convertible in Viking's Fleet

Introduced at the Miami International Boat Show in 2023, the Viking 90 sits at the top of the Viking Yachts' Convertible sportfishing range. The model was developed as Viking's flagship platform, extending the company's long-established tournament fishing pedigree into the 90-foot category while providing greater onboard volume, larger social spaces, and expanded customization opportunities.

Like the rest of Viking's convertible range, the 90 is designed to balance offshore fishing capability with long-range cruising comfort. The model has become one of the shipyard's most significant recent launches, helping strengthen a lineup that spans from owner-operated sportfishing boats to some of the largest production convertibles on the market.

Latest Hull Advances Toward Delivery

Images released by Viking show the sportfisher yacht being moved from the production building on its cradle before being lifted by Travelift and transferred to the commissioning dock.

Each Viking 90 requires approximately ten months to complete, making this latest milestone one of the final stages before sea trials and handover. According to the builder, the yacht will undergo fueling, systems testing, inspections, and startup procedures before heading onto the water.

The latest hull also introduces a first for the model, featuring an exterior staircase on the starboard side with teak steps leading to the open bridge deck. Once sea trials are completed, the motor yacht is expected to be delivered to her owner in Dubai.

A Successful Run Since Launch

The movement of the 20th hull highlights the commercial success of the Viking 90 since its introduction three years ago. The flagship sits above the Viking 82 Convertible in the builder's lineup and continues a lineage of large sportfishers that has helped establish Viking as one of the world's best-known names in the sector.

Several styling features introduced on the 90 have since appeared elsewhere across the range, including the Viking 82 Convertible. Beneath the flagship, models such as the Viking 68 Convertible and Viking 74 Convertible continue to serve owners looking for tournament capability in slightly smaller packages.

YachtBuyer reviewed the Viking 74 Convertible, noting the model's engineering quality, performance, flexible accommodations, and offshore fishing capability - characteristics that remain central to Viking's wider convertible range.

Recent Activity at Viking Yachts

Earlier this year, Viking completed sea trials for the first hull of its new Viking 64 Sport Coupe, the largest Sport Coupe model the company has produced to date. Built on the proven Viking 64 Convertible platform, the new model reached speeds of approximately 40 knots during testing and was developed to provide owners with an enclosed-helm alternative suited to both offshore fishing and extended cruising.

The activity comes as Viking continues to build on more than six decades of boatbuilding experience. Founded in 1964 by Bill Healey, who sadly passed away at the end of 2025, the family-owned company has delivered more than 5,500 yachts and remains one of the most prominent builders in the sportfishing market. The shipyard's philosophy of "building a better boat every day" continues to guide production at its New Jersey facility.
