40m Van der Valk Custom Superyacht Shine Delivered

The Dutch yard has delivered its largest vessel to date, with the 40m superyacht Shine now sailing in the Mediterranean.

The 40-metre Van der Valk superyacht Shine has been delivered following her launch in March 2026 and subsequent sea trials. Designed inside and out by Cristiano Gatto Design, with naval architecture by Diana Yacht Design, the 370GT aluminium yacht combines a fast-displacement platform, offering speeds up to 24 knots alongside a highly customised onboard layout.

A flowing, low-profile design defined by glass and curvature

The superyacht introduces a sleek and contemporary profile that reflects a flowing form built around long bands of glazing and soft, continuous curves. Her dark silver-grey hull is paired with expansive black glazing, visually merging the superstructure into a single uninterrupted line, while the slightly raked bow and sculpted deck transitions create a sense of forward motion. Spanning three decks, the yacht’s proportions are carefully balanced to maintain a low, elongated silhouette that reinforces both performance intent and modern aesthetic appeal.

Multi-level outdoor living centred on a versatile beach club

Exterior spaces on board the yacht are designed to maximise connection with the water, anchored by a large teak bathing platform that extends subtly around the hull sides. A transformer platform with fold-down balconies enhances the beach club experience, while twin staircases link the main deck aft to the water’s edge. Social areas are spread across multiple levels, from the main deck’s relaxed sunpad and banquette arrangement to a foredeck lounge centred around an elevated jacuzzi. Above, the sundeck sits beneath a striking black canopy, offering shaded dining and lounging while preserving the yacht’s strong horizontal profile.

A richly layered interior shaped by craftsmanship and material depth

Inside, the motor yacht features a highly personalised environment defined by material richness and fine detailing, with around 78 different materials used throughout, including ebony wood, leather and bespoke furnishings. The layout accommodates up to 10 guests across 5 staterooms, with a full-beam owner’s suite positioned forward on the main deck for privacy and elevated views. The lower deck is dedicated to guest accommodation, comprising 2 VIP cabins and 2 twin suites, while there are crew quarters for 8, supporting efficient operations with clear separation between guest and service areas.

Fast-displacement performance with owner-operator focus

Built entirely in aluminium with a round-bilge fast-displacement hull, Shine is engineered for both efficiency and speed. Powered by twin MTU 16V 2000 engines, she reaches a top speed of approximately 24 knots and cruises comfortably at 19 knots, offering flexibility for a range of cruising styles.

A Growing Order Book at Van der Valk

According to YachtBuyer MarketWatch, the largest yacht database in the world, there are currently 3 Van der Valk yachts in the order book.

Shine joins a wider construction programme at Van der Valk, with several bespoke projects currently underway across the 30–40 metre segment. Among them is the 33m Project May, a custom yacht designed inside and out by Guido de Groot Design, offering accommodation for up to 10 guests across 5 suites and scheduled for launch in 2026.

Also in build is Project Berlin, due for delivery in 2027. Smaller in scale but equally bespoke, the yacht features both interior and exterior design by Guido de Groot Design and accommodates up to six guests across three cabins.
