Sunreef Unveils 65M Explorer Concept – The World’s Largest Luxury Catamaran

Sunreef Yachts has lifted the curtain on its most ambitious project to date - the 65M Sunreef Explorer - a 65-meter, 1,800GT catamaran concept that would become the world’s largest luxury catamaran once built.

Presented at the Monaco Yacht Show 2025, the design sets a new benchmark for both scale and ambition in the catamaran superyacht sector.

A New Flagship for Sunreef

The model features steel and aluminum construction, reverse bows, darkened glazing, and the curved lines typical of the yard’s design DNA. With twin hulls and broad beam, the yacht achieves a gross tonnage of 1,800GT, delivering vast interior volumes unusual even among 65-meter yachts.

This is a yacht to broaden the horizons of an exceptional owner.”

Francis Lapp, Sunreef’s founder and CEO, called the design “an exquisite yacht designed to provide long-term luxury for a large owner’s party,” adding: “I can’t imagine a more comfortable platform for a genuinely ambitious cruising programme. This is a yacht to broaden the horizons of an exceptional owner.”

A Contemporary Approach to Social Living

The main deck on board the catamaran houses a formal dining area for 14, flanked by panoramic glazing and twin lounges.

On the upper deck, a more intimate setting features dining for 12, a four-seat bar, and L-shaped lounge.

A Six-Meter Pool and Expansive Beach Club Aft

A six-meter pool on board the superyacht forms the heart of the main deck aft, surrounded by sunpads and sofas, with steps leading down to the expansive beach club.

The platform can accommodate a seven-meter tender and multiple Jet Skis, or transform into a waterside terrace with loungers and parasols. Fold-down wings extend the deck further, with a gym to port and toy store to starboard.

The upper deck provides a Jacuzzi within the aft rail, surrounded by sunpads for private relaxation, complementing the yacht’s balance of social and intimate exterior spaces.

Seven Staterooms Including a Palatial Owner’s Suite

The motor yacht accommodates 12 guests in seven cabins, supported by a 22-strong crew. The owner’s suite dominates the forward upper deck, with floor-to-ceiling windows, a king-size bed, private foredeck lounge, office, walk-in wardrobe, and a bathroom suite featuring a two-person bathtub and separate his-and-hers facilities.

Two VIP cabins aft of the master suite offer walk-in wardrobes and large bathrooms, while the main deck provides four additional double cabins. Crew accommodation below deck ensures a high service level for extended voyages.

As part of Sunreef’s Explorer line, the 65M emphasizes autonomy and utility as much as luxury. A retractable A-frame crane is engineered to handle a 45-foot chase boat, submersibles, or off-road vehicles. Fuel capacity of 140,000 liters, supported by four 800 eKW engines, generators, and dual 1,200 kWh battery sets, underpins long-range cruising.

Performance targets include a top speed of 18 knots, cruising speed of 14 knots, and eco speed of 10 knots, with efficiency enhanced by the twin-hull design. The superyacht is designed for ocean passages and extended stays off-grid.

The 50M Explorer – A Smaller Sibling With Global Reach

While the 65M Sunreef Explorer sits at the top of the range, the Sunreef 50M Explorer offers a more compact entry point into long-range catamaran cruising. At 49.9 meters and 1,000GT less volume, it trades some of the scale of the flagship for efficiency and accessibility, but still provides six guest cabins for 12 and accommodation for 12 crew. Built in composite with a 4,000-nautical-mile range, the 50M Explorer retains the redundancy of twin engines, dual fuel tanks, and multiple generators, along with generous storage and waste management systems for extended time at sea.

For buyers, the choice becomes one of scope: the 65M delivers palatial spaces, dual pools, and capacity for larger owner’s parties, while the 50M emphasizes independence and adventure in a more streamlined package. Both reflect Sunreef’s DNA, but at different scales of ambition.
