Benetti Buyer's Guide
Benetti yachts are built in Italy and owned all over the world, but buyers face very different choices across the range. This guide explains the differences between new builds, stock and used yachts, examines the main model families and covers crew, specification and charter issues worth checking before purchase.
Made in Italy, Respected Worldwide
Benetti's history dates back to 1873, when Lorenzo Benetti bought a shipyard in Viareggio. Paolo Vitelli acquired the business in 1985 and brought it into the Azimut group. The yard went on to develop semi-custom superyachts alongside its full-custom projects, creating a broad range of models that buyers can still find on the brokerage market.
In 2019, Benetti launched three yachts over 100m (328ft) within 100 days during its Giga Season. Today, its output ranges from composite yachts to much larger steel and aluminium superyachts. For the full story, explore YachtBuyer's Benetti heritage and history.
Why Buy a Benetti?
Benetti offers buyers a broad choice, from composite semi-custom yachts such as the Oasis 34M and Motopanfilo 37M to much larger steel and aluminium superyachts. Owners can choose an established design with scope for personalisation or commission a fully custom yacht. The yard's long history and international service network are further advantages, particularly for owners who cruise far from its Italian shipyards.
The differences between models are substantial, though. Some favour outdoor guest space and coastal cruising, while others place greater emphasis on range, volume and longer passages. Buyers should assess each yacht on its merits rather than assume that every Benetti offers the same capabilities.
How Much Do Benetti Yachts Cost?
Prices vary considerably across the range. New-build costs depend on the model, specification and level of customisation, while used Benetti asking prices reflect age, condition, equipment and refit history.
Buyers can compare current Benetti yachts for sale and use YachtBuyer MarketWatch to examine advertised price changes on each model page. Asking prices are not necessarily the prices achieved when yachts sell.
Which Model Should I Buy?
Benetti has eight yacht families, each with a different approach to layout, construction and use. The choice depends on how far the owner intends to cruise, how much time the yacht will spend at anchor and whether a new build or a used yacht makes more sense.
Benetti Oasis
The Benetti Oasis range puts outdoor space first. Its distinctive Oasis Deck has fold-out terraces, an infinity pool and direct access to the water. The current range comprises the Oasis 36M and 42M, while the earlier Oasis 34M and 40M are also worth a look on the brokerage market.
Motopanfilo
Inspired by Benetti's classic motor yachts, the Motopanfilo range has a more traditional design. The 37M has a GRP and carbon-fibre structure and an upper observation deck. The larger 45M uses a steel hull and aluminium superstructure, with a distinctive Veranda Deck. Buyers should treat them as quite different yachts despite their shared name.
Class
Benetti’s Class range is Benetti's largest composite yacht, with five guest cabins and a 102m² (1,098ft²) sundeck. Its tri-deck layout offers substantial guest space without the steel construction of larger Benettis. It's a useful comparison with the similarly sized Motopanfilo 45M.
Benetti B.Neos
The Benetti B.Neos (from the Greek néos, meaning new or fresh) takes a different approach, with low, sailing yacht-inspired lines and hybrid propulsion as standard. Designed by Malcolm McKeon Yacht Design, it has an unusual open-plan family kitchen and an upper-deck owner's apartment. Its layout and propulsion system are the main reasons to consider it over a more conventional 40m yacht.
Benetti B.Yond
The Benetti B.Yond series places great focus on long-distance cruising, with substantial storage, four-deck layouts and hybrid-electric propulsion in the current 40M and 57M designs. It is aimed at owners who expect to spend extended periods aboard. Buyers interested in earlier B.Yond yachts should check the propulsion system and equipment fitted to the individual vessel.
Benetti B.Now
The Benetti B.Now line covers steel-hulled superyachts from around 50m to 72m, with aluminium superstructures and established semi-custom platforms. The Oasis Deck option brings Benetti's fold-out aft terraces and pool concept to much larger yachts. Build slots, layouts and delivery dates vary by model and project.
B.Loft
The B.Loft range by Benetti makes greater use of interior height, large glass doors and tiered outdoor terraces. Its residential-style spaces set it apart from the more conventional layouts of the B.Now family. Buyers should confirm the design specification, construction status and delivery schedule for each project.
Benetti Full Custom
The Benetti Custom division handles yachts from around 50m to well over 100m. These projects allow far greater input into the design, layout and technical specification than the yard's established ranges. The process requires a substantial build commitment, although buyers may also find previously delivered custom Benettis on the brokerage market.

European vs. U.S. Benetti Yachts: What Buyers Should Check
Benetti yachts aren't built to a fixed European or American specification. Electrical systems, air-conditioning, navigation equipment and certification depend on the original owner's requirements, intended cruising areas and any subsequent refits.
Shore power is an important consideration. European marinas generally supply electricity at 50Hz, compared with 60Hz in the United States. Many large yachts have converters to accommodate different supplies, but buyers should check the voltage, frequency and shore-power connections fitted to the yacht. Air-conditioning capacity also deserves attention, particularly if the yacht will move to a hotter climate.
Classification isn't determined by where a Benetti is sold. RINA, Lloyd's Register and ABS operate internationally, while flag-state requirements depend on the yacht's registration and intended use. The EU Recreational Craft Directive covers recreational craft with hull lengths up to 24m, so its yacht design and construction rules don't apply to the current Benetti range. Buyers should check the vessel's class and flag certification instead.
Should you Buy a New or Used Benetti Yacht?
A new Benetti offers greater control over the layout, finishes and technical specification, while a used yacht can offer a much shorter route to ownership. Stock and in-build yachts provide another option, although availability and the scope for changes depend on how far construction has progressed.
New Benetti Yachts for Sale
A new Benetti yacht can be ordered from one of the yard's established ranges or commissioned as a fully custom project. Semi-custom models offer a choice of layouts, finishes and equipment within an existing design, while full-custom yachts allow greater freedom over the vessel itself.
Build slots, contract terms and delivery schedules vary. Buyers should establish what the quoted price includes, which changes remain possible and what warranty cover the yard will provide.
Build Slot vs Dealer Stock
A build slot allows buyers to order a yacht for construction, with delivery subject to the yard's schedule. A stock or in-build Benetti may offer an earlier delivery date, but the distinction matters: some yachts are complete, while others remain years from handover.
The stage of construction also determines how much scope remains to alter the specification. Buyers should check the expected delivery date, build progress and contractual commitments before purchase.
Ordering a Fully Custom Benetti Yacht
A full-custom Benetti starts with an owner's brief covering the intended use, range, accommodation, propulsion and technical requirements. Naval architects and designers develop the yacht before the final specification, construction contract and build schedule are agreed.
These projects demand close oversight throughout construction, with an owner's representative or project manager often involved from design through to sea trials and handover. Buyers should also establish the intended flag, classification and commercial requirements at an early stage.
Before buying a used Benetti, request full service records and a demonstration of the stabilisers, air-conditioning, watermakers and other important equipment. Check the documentation for factory options and later upgrades, and establish what may need repair or replacement.
Used Benetti Yachts for Sale (Brokerage)
On the brokerage market, used Benetti yachts naturally give a wider choice of generations, layouts and asking prices, including discontinued models and fully custom yachts. Many have undergone substantial refits, but their condition and maintenance history matter more than age alone.
A professional survey, sea trial and review of machinery records, classification status and recent refit work are essential. Buyers should also check title, outstanding finance, tax status and the terms of the sale agreement.
Older Benettis may offer a lower purchase price, but substantial machinery work, paint, surveys and other refit costs can quickly change the financial picture.
Crewing your Benetti Yacht
Benetti yachts are designed with dedicated crew accommodation, and most owners will employ a captain and crew. Smaller models such as the Oasis and Motopanfilo need fewer hands than the larger B.Now, B.Yond and custom yachts, where engineering, deck work and guest service demand a much larger team.
Crew requirements depend on the yacht's flag, tonnage and use. For UK-flagged private yachts of at least 24m in load line length and 80GT or more, deck and engineering qualification rules apply. Commercial yachts face additional requirements, while other flag states have their own rules. A suitably qualified owner may take command, but operating a Benetti without additional crew is rarely practical.
Crew also represents a substantial annual expense. Beyond salaries, owners must budget for recruitment, training, travel, insurance and provisions. Buyers should check the crew accommodation and current staffing arrangements, particularly if the yacht will be used for charter.
Making Your Benetti Pay: Chartering out my Benetti
Charter income can help offset the annual cost of Benetti ownership, although returns depend on demand, operating expenses and the amount of time the owner reserves for private use. A yacht's size or model alone doesn't establish whether it can operate commercially.
Buyers should check the yacht's commercial certification, flag, permitted areas of operation, crew requirements and insurance. For UK-flagged large commercial yachts with no more than 12 passengers, the current standard is the Red Ensign Group Yacht Code, Part A. Older yachts certified under LY3 may continue under transitional arrangements. Converting a private yacht to commercial use can involve costly alterations and fresh certification.
For owners who intend to offer their Benetti for charter, a broker or charter manager can assess the individual yacht's prospects and likely costs before purchase.
