Cantieri di Pisa Advances Construction on 40m Custom Superyacht

Cantieri di Pisa has reported steady progress on its in-build 40m CDP custom superyacht, with the hull now complete and key structural milestones nearing completion.

Design authorship has not been disclosed, though the project is being developed entirely in-house as the first fully bespoke yacht under the yard’s current direction.

Build Progress Reaches Key Structural Phase

Construction has moved into a decisive stage, with the hull finished and the first level of the superstructure approximately 90 percent complete. The stern block is in the final phase of structural work and is scheduled for assembly in the coming weeks, marking the next visible step in the yacht’s exterior profile.

Alongside this, the shipyard’s technical-production team is progressing work on the flybridge, while interior outfitting has already begun. Early-stage interior work includes preparation of crew accommodation areas, with insulation installation planned as the next step. Hull fittings are also nearing completion, and initial base structures have been installed onboard.

...the fact that [the yacht] is a fully bespoke project requires the development of design solutions that make no compromises on quality standards. The yacht’s generous volumes, compared to market standards, have allowed us to further optimise liveability at sea.”

- Marco Massabò, Cantieri di Pisa CEO

Taken together, these developments point to a coordinated build schedule, with structural, mechanical, and interior work advancing in parallel.

High-Volume Platform Shapes Onboard Living

At approximately 450 gross tons, the 40-meter platform sits at the upper end of its size bracket in terms of internal volume. This has had a direct impact on the layout and onboard living strategy, with the project shaped around extended time at sea.

Cantieri di Pisa CEO Marco Massabò noted that the yacht represents a new phase for the shipyard, both in terms of design direction and client engagement. The fully custom nature of the build has required tailored solutions across multiple areas, particularly in maximizing onboard space and operational efficiency.

The owner, based in Europe, is described as highly experienced and intends to spend long periods onboard. As a result, the design prioritizes comfort, storage capacity, and functional flow, while also accommodating charter use. This dual-purpose brief is reflected in the layout, crew arrangement, and service areas throughout the yacht.

One of the defining features of the owner’s suite is a fixed terrace on the port side, paired with a sliding glass door fitted with one-way privacy technology. This detail allows for outward views while maintaining discretion, with the glazing designed to match the motor yacht’s metallic hull finish.

Heritage Styling Reworked for a New Generation

The yacht’s exterior styling revisits several established Cantieri di Pisa design cues, reinterpreted in a more contemporary finish. A metallic silver hull references the well-known Akhir 118 Nena, one of the yard’s earlier models, while signature black striping and molded detailing are reworked in a darker metallic grey.

Material choices also reflect a shift in both aesthetics and practicality. The deck will be laid in green teak, using strip construction that allows for greater flexibility in plank sizing and layout compared to traditional teak decking. This approach provides more control over proportions and finish across different deck areas.

On the upper deck, the hard top and bow sunpad will be produced in composite materials, reducing weight while maintaining structural integrity. These elements are expected to contribute to both performance efficiency and long-term durability.

A 6.60-meter tender is housed onboard, supported by a selection of water toys. These facilities are intended for both private enjoyment and charter use, ensuring the yacht remains adaptable across different operating modes.

Power comes from twin MAN V12 engines, each producing 1,550 horsepower. This setup delivers a reported top speed of 15 knots, with a cruising speed of 13 knots and a range of approximately 2,000 nautical miles.

A Defining Project for Cantieri di Pisa’s Next Phase

As the first fully custom yacht developed under the shipyard’s current direction, the 40-meter project carries broader significance beyond its technical progress. It reflects a shift toward bespoke construction, while recent work on the 39m classic Zanzoun - now undergoing a €2.5 million refit in Türkiye - underlines continued attention to the brand’s heritage fleet.
