The build began with a ceremonial first weld, carried out with the involvement of the owner, signaling a hands-on and highly personalized project from the outset.
The YXT 34 was reportedly commissioned by an adventurous and athletic owner with global exploration in mind. Designed as a highly capable support and expedition platform, the yacht will serve as a logistical and operational backbone for extended cruising.
Expanding the YXT Platform
At 33.8 meters LOA with an 8.85-meter beam, the YXT 34 represents a significant step up from the earlier YXT 27 platform. The additional length translates directly into expanded deck space, increased carrying capacity, and greater flexibility both above and below deck.
Exterior design is led by Dutch studio Bernd Weel, while engineering and naval architecture are overseen by Diana Yacht Design. Interior design is entrusted to Julian Moore. Together, the team has developed a vessel defined by a strong, masculine profile and a layout structured around operational efficiency.
The yacht has been conceived to support ambitious itineraries. Central to the brief is the ability to transport a full-size submarine beneath the main deck, alongside a large tender and even a car. This level of carrying capability places the YXT 34 firmly within the upper tier of the shadow and support vessel segment.
Built to Carry, Launch, and Support
The 145-square-meter main deck is the operational heart of the yacht. Finished with a non-slip, hard-wearing surface, it is designed as a configurable workspace that can be tailored to an owner’s cruising style.
In its most ambitious configuration, the deck can accommodate a large RIB, a limo tender, four WaveRunners, and a submarine at the same time. Alternatively, it can be arranged to carry a large container for spare parts alongside a selection of tenders and toys. This flexibility underlines the brief of the expedition yacht - the ability to support remote cruising without compromise.
The increased length over smaller sisterships also enables the installation of a knuckle boom crane. It offers a lifting capacity of 15.2 tonnes at a reach of 3.5 meters and 4.2 tonnes at a reach of 11.4 meters, providing serious handling capability for heavy equipment and submersibles.
Above, the wheelhouse provides 360-degree visibility across the main deck and surrounding waters. This elevated vantage point supports navigation and precise maneuvering, particularly in confined marinas or during tender operations.
Mission-Driven Interior Configuration
Beneath the working deck, the explorer yacht continues to prioritize adaptability. Two 14.5-square-meter rooms can be configured to meet the owner’s needs. In the current laundry layout, they include an ironing station, three laundry machines, tumble dryers, and substantial fridge and freezer units for additional cold storage. However, these spaces are intended to be reimagined according to mission requirements, whether for extra storage, equipment rooms, or alternative uses.
A 62-square-meter lazarette aft of the engine room provides further capacity for inflatable toys, surfboards, canoes, and diving gear. The layout reflects the yacht’s intended role as a support vessel capable of carrying equipment that would otherwise occupy valuable space on a primary yacht.
Forward of the 24.5-square-meter crew mess are three double crew cabins. These areas can also be customized, reinforcing the yard’s emphasis on tailoring each build to the owner’s operational profile.
Engineered for Global Cruising
The YXT 34 measures 33.8 meters in length overall, with a maximum beam of 8.85 meters and a draft of 2.25 meters. Displacement is listed at 230 tonnes, with gross tonnage kept below 200 GT. Maximum speed is 17 knots.
While performance figures are modest compared to high-speed yachts, they align with the superyacht's role. The emphasis is on range, load-bearing capability, and reliability rather than outright speed. This is a yacht designed to travel far, carry heavy equipment, and operate independently in demanding conditions.
Where Dutch steel meets uncompromising vision. Beauty and the Beast, forged in steel."
Lynx Yachts
The YXT 34, built for Outer Reef Yachts, is intended for active owners and offers numerous possibilities above and below deck, packaged within a strong and masculine-looking exterior. With steel now being assembled in Nijkerk, the project moves from concept to reality. As construction progresses, further details are expected to emerge. For now, the first weld marks the beginning of a 33.8-meter platform built to extend the reach of global exploration.
