Nordhavn's Eighth N71 Hull Emerges from the Mould at Ta Shing Shipyard

The Nordhavn N71 is a long-range trawler yacht designed by Nordhavn and Jeff Leishman, with naval architecture and interior design developed in-house. Built in FRP at Ta Shing Yacht Building in Taiwan, the model was created to bridge the gap between Nordhavn's mid-size range and their larger yachts, offering owner-operators the styling, engineering and ocean-crossing capability of the builder's larger expedition yachts in a size that can be managed without a permanent crew. Drawing on lessons learned from the Nordhavn 68 and Nordhavn 76, the N71 introduces updated styling, modern engineering and improved onboard comfort for extended cruising.

The newly released images show the yacht's hull immediately after being removed from its mould, marking one of the first major milestones in the composite construction process. With the hull complete, work now moves on to structural reinforcement, installation of mechanical and electrical systems, joining the deck and, finally, interior fit-out. Although much of the engineering will eventually be concealed behind the finished interiors, this stage provides a rare look at the precision of the hull that forms the foundation of the motor yacht's long-range cruising capabilities.

The N71 is available with either a three-stateroom layout featuring a skylounge or a four-cabin configuration accommodating up to eight guests. Nordhavn says the yacht benefits from more intuitive space planning, larger windows, a spacious owner's cabin and an enlarged dining area, while a furniture credit allows owners to personalise the interior with their own choice of furnishings. Developed using the builder's in-house computational fluid dynamics (CFD) programme and built to CE Category A offshore standards, the N71 has been engineered for ocean-crossing capability and extended cruising.

Power comes from a single 249hp John Deere 6068SFM85 engine, chosen to prioritise efficiency and reliability during extended voyages. Paired with an 18,284-litre fuel capacity, the N71 has been engineered for long-distance cruising rather than high-speed performance.
