Design & Construction
Designed around a displacement steel hull and an aluminum superstructure she features a 12.4m (40.6ft) beam and a 4.4m (14.4ft) draft. The yacht is built over four decks with an internal volume of 2,146 GT (Gross Tonnes).
Construction started in late 1994; the yacht was delivered to her owners in April 1997. At the time of its launch, Limitless held the title of the largest American yacht in private hands. The owner was Leslie Wexner, the head of Limited Brands, which includes Victoria’s Secret lingerie.
Exterior Design
Limitless is a 96.25m (315.7ft) Lürssen, and the design carries real intent as well as clear lineage, with Jon Bannenberg taking inspiration from Carinthia VI while reshaping it into something broader, taller, and far more commanding. The familiar cues remain, yet the proportions shift the entire balance, so the yacht feels heavier and more planted on the water while still retaining that original elegance.
The curved forward face of the superstructure defines the profile, as a grid of small windows wraps across the front and softens the scale without losing structure. This is not a decorative detail, but a solution that reduces visual mass while maintaining function, and it still stands apart from the flatter glazing seen on most yachts today.
"one of the most beautiful yachts in the world"
James Roy, BMT Nigel Gee
The profile holds together through careful alignment, as the forward rake of the bow mirrors the angle of the transom, so the silhouette reads as one continuous form from end to end. There is no fixed mast interrupting this flow, as Bannenberg opted for a retractable carbon fibre mast that can be lowered when not in use, which keeps the decklines clean while still meeting operational needs.
Deck space is arranged across four levels, with large aft sections and upper decks that prioritise usability over styling gestures. The fold-down swim platform extends the stern when deployed, while the tender bays are integrated into the structure and double as access points for major engineering work, so even here the design links appearance with long-term function.
Interior Design
François Catroux was responsible for the design, and his approach leans toward comfort and restraint, which aligns with an owner brief focused on long stays onboard rather than display.
With 2,146GT of internal volume, the layout supports extended cruising, as spaces are spread across multiple decks and arranged to give separation as well as continuity. The interior remains private.
Accommodation
Limitless offers accommodation for up to 12 guests in 6 suites comprising an owners cabin, 3 double cabins and 2 twin cabins. She is also capable of carrying up to 20 crew onboard to ensure a relaxed luxury yacht experience.
Performance & Capabilities
Limitless was built around a diesel-electric platform at a time when this approach was still rare. Power comes from Caterpillar 3516B-DI-SCAC units integrated into a system that can run in different modes, so the yacht can shift between outright speed and more efficient cruising depending on the passage.
Top speed is around 25 knots, which is notable for a yacht of this scale, while a cruising speed of 17 knots offers a more measured setup for longer runs. The system also allows reduced engine use when full power is not required, which improves range and lowers wear over time. Range is a core part of the design, as the yacht was engineered for transoceanic travel without compromise.
Handling and control were further refined during a major refit starting in 2003, which introduced upgraded propulsion management and manoeuvring systems. The inclusion of controllable pitch propellers adds another level of adjustment, so thrust can be fine-tuned to suit different speeds and conditions.
Access to the engineering spaces has also been thought through in detail, as major components such as propulsion generators can be removed through the tender bays using the yacht’s own cranes.
Amenities
The yacht features a well-equipped gym, allowing her guests to keep up their fitness regimes at sea. In addition, a swim platform is on hand for guests looking to cool off in the sea. Air conditioning offers increased on-board comfort.
