WATCH: Sanlorenzo Reveals Flagship 74Steel Superyacht Ahead of Launch

The first 74m Sanlorenzo 74Steel superyacht has been unveiled in La Spezia, the yard’s largest yacht to date, uniting scale with its signature craftsmanship and bespoke ethos.

With three hulls of the Sanlorenzo 74Steel model already sold and a fourth under negotiation before the first unit has even launched, Sanlorenzo’s largest project to date has found strong traction among buyers. Each yacht is configured differently, from bow shapes to propulsion systems, underlining the yard’s made-to-measure philosophy.

Exterior Design: A New Scale for Sanlorenzo

The 74Steel’s exterior lines come from Zuccon International Project, the Rome-based studio that has helped shape Sanlorenzo’s design identity in recent years. Architect Bernardo Zuccon describes the yacht as a turning point in “floating architecture,” a careful balance between sculptural softness and structural strength.

For the first hull, the vertical bow and dynamic stern emphasize both aesthetic expression and a practical relationship with the sea. The scale of the superyacht demanded new stylistic research, creating what Zuccon calls “a true expression of machines à habiter” in the Le Corbusier tradition.

Interior Design: Owner-Centric Spaces

The interior design of the first 74Steel is by Francesco Paszkowski in collaboration with Margherita Casprini. Their work mirrors the exterior’s sculpted forms, with furniture that carries pronounced curves and rugs that define spaces through flowing shapes rather than rigid boundaries.

“The owner placed particular emphasis on interiors,” said Paszkowski. “Our focus was on refined elegance and functionality while staying true to Sanlorenzo’s design codes.”

Casprini highlighted the role of materials in shaping atmosphere. Matte wood dominates the interior, establishing a warm and understated tone, while each ensuite bathroom features a different variety of marble, giving every cabin its own character. The result is a contemporary yet timeless environment enriched by curated artwork and textures.

Life on Deck

Sanlorenzo has given the 74Steel a spatial rhythm that places guest experience at the heart of its architecture. Each deck has distinct roles, supported by clear sightlines and strategic circulation that ensures privacy when needed.

  • Sun Deck: An al fresco space with bar, dining, and panoramic views. A forward firepit and hot tub sit among sofa seating, while aft areas are dedicated to sunbathing. A transparent glass windbreak beneath the hardtop ensures comfort in breezy conditions.

  • Owner’s Deck: The owner’s private realm extends across 130 square meters of interior space, with additional open-air terraces. Features include a forward-facing king-size suite, lounge and office, walk-in wardrobe, dual bathrooms, and a secluded terrace with hot tub. Privacy is reinforced through access planning that prevents intrusion from other decks.

  • Bridge Deck: Home to a 56-square-meter wheelhouse with an integrated bridge by Team Italia (now part of Rolls-Royce), this deck also supports a touch-and-go helipad. Aft, the sky lounge adapts between enclosed living space and open veranda thanks to sliding and folding glass panels.

  • Main Deck: Five ensuite guest cabins, including a full-beam VIP with private lounge, lead into a 130-square-meter saloon and dining area. Sliding glass panels connect the spaces with the outdoors, while a glass-bottomed pool aft illuminates the beach club below.

  • Lower Deck: Alongside crew areas and twin tender garages, the lower deck is defined by the wellness zone. It includes a gym, sauna, hammam, plunge pool, massage room, and family space. The beach club expands dramatically through fold-down bulwarks and a flush-folding transom door.

  • Tank Deck: Crew-focused facilities are spread across this level, including cold storage, dry stores, a wine cellar, and a dedicated gym. The first hull even incorporates hydroponic cultivation, enabling fresh produce to be grown on board.

Diesel-Electric Innovation

At the technical core of the 74Steel lies its diesel-electric propulsion, engineered in-house with Siemens Energy. Six variable-speed Volvo Penta–Mase generators power twin Schottel E-Pods, delivering 1,000 kW each. The system is supported by water-cooled LEHMANN COBRA lithium iron phosphate batteries with 1.5 MWh capacity.

This arrangement on board the motor yacht not only improves efficiency but also liberates interior volume by repurposing traditional technical spaces for guest amenities. The result is an expansive beach club and wellness area, among the largest in this category.

Redundancy is built into both power and propulsion systems to enhance reliability. The HVAC system uses Variable Air Volume technology, adjusting airflow based on temperature and occupancy. The effect is greater efficiency and a consistently quiet, comfortable environment on board.

Balancing Scale and Strategy

By capping the 74Steel at around a gross tonnage of 1,900 GT, Sanlorenzo positions the yacht at the upper end of its production without entering the complex gigayacht segment. This balance allows the yard to maintain control over build quality and timelines while continuing to pursue bespoke solutions within a proven technical framework.

“Each of the three hulls in this series so far is a reflection of the owner’s individuality,” said Tommaso Vincenzi, CEO of Sanlorenzo. “We are providing a yacht that feels fully customized without losing the reliability of a proven platform.”

Sanlorenzo’s Order Book Strengthens Across Ranges

Sanlorenzo’s order book is not limited to its flagship - according to YachtBuyer Market Watch, the world's largest yacht database, Sanlorenzo currently has 107 yachts either in build or on order. The Sanlorenzo SL86 Asymmetric, an award-nominated 26.6-meter flybridge yacht, continues to prove popular with eight hulls in build. Its raised port deck creates larger interiors and floor-to-ceiling views, while four cabins accommodate up to eight guests. The Sanlorenzo SD118, a 35.75-meter semi-displacement tri-deck, offers five cabins, a main deck owner’s suite, and a genuine beach club with three fold-down terraces.

The crossover Sanlorenzo SX88 remains one of the shipyard’s most successful fiberglass yachts, with 10 hulls in progress. Its open-plan salon, versatile layouts, and 23-knot performance reinforce its appeal. Together, these models show Sanlorenzo’s strength across categories, ensuring momentum well beyond its new 74Steel flagship.
