Watch Valor Depart Aalsmeer as the Feadship 80m Explorer Yacht Prepares for Sea Trials

The 80m custom hybrid explorer yacht Valor by Feadship has departed the Aalsmeer facility and is now preparing to undergo her first set of sea trials.

Launched on 18 May 2025 and developed under the build name Project 715, Valor is now preparing for her public debut at the 2025 Monaco Yacht Show in September.

A High-Volume Explorer Built for Arctic Ambition

Commissioned by a repeat Feadship client, Valor stands apart as a next-generation expedition yacht with Bureau Veritas Young Ice Class 2 notation, thanks to a reinforced two-meter ice belt above and below the waterline. Her steel hull and aluminum superstructure support a robust and high-volume platform with a gross tonnage of 2,117GT, enabling autonomous cruising in remote and icy waters, including the Northwest Passage.

At 79.5 meters (261 feet) in length, with a beam of 13.4 meters and a 3.7-meter draft, Valor spans six decks and features expansive walk-around layouts. Key exterior elements on board the superyacht include a prominent dreadnought-style bow, integrated tender storage, and one of the largest contra-flow infinity pools Feadship has installed on a yacht of this length. A second Jacuzzi forward of the owner’s suite, helideck, gym, and drop-down beach club terraces complete the yacht’s serious expedition credentials.

The bold styling of the yacht is the work of Chris Bottoms at Studio De Voogt, who worked to a distinctive owner brief: create something “recognizable from outer space.” Rejecting conventional tiered or curvaceous forms, the design merges military inspiration with refined detailing, including widened bulwarks, a clean superstructure, and geometric lines.

Interior by Bannenberg & Rowell: Natural Materials, Bespoke Details

The interior of the motor yacht Valor, developed by Bannenberg & Rowell, remains largely under wraps but is known to continue the exterior’s architectural clarity. The studio has embraced a palette of natural materials such as hand-finished stone, bronze, and timber, working them into finely detailed forms. The showpiece of the interior is the central staircase, made up of 48,001 individual components, including solid bronze and stone detailing.

Furniture and fittings include bespoke pieces by renowned makers such as George Nakashima, Linley, Pollaro, and Silver Lining. Other highlights include a curated vinyl collection with high-end McIntosh audio equipment, billet titanium director’s chairs, and custom stonework sourced directly from Italy.

Formal entertaining spaces include a 14-seat dining area with sliding glass walls that can transform into an open-air setting, while more relaxed areas are positioned across the sky lounge, wellness deck, and aft beach club. A lift connects all six decks, from the sundeck to the water-level spa zone.

Accommodation and Liveability On Board Valor

Valor accommodates up to 14 guests in seven cabins. The standout owner’s suite takes up its own private deck, featuring a forward-facing cabin with panoramic views over the helipad, a large en suite, a walk-in dressing room, and a private Jacuzzi terrace. A designated study and grass-covered relief area for the owner's three golden retrievers underline the high level of customization.

Six further guest cabins are located on the main deck, giving guests direct access to the outdoor lounges and main salon. Crew operations are supported by generous service corridors and discreet vertical circulation paths throughout the explorer yacht.

Advanced Hybrid Power and Zero-Emission Capability

Underneath her robust exterior, Valor is one of the most environmentally advanced yachts Feadship has ever built. Developed under the Feadship Advanced Electrical Drive (FAED) program, her propulsion system features four variable-speed John Deere diesel generators linked to a DC grid and a 5.34MWh lithium-ion battery bank. This system enables up to 48 hours of silent, zero-emission cruising, with additional power sourced from solar panels mounted on the mast.

Propulsion is delivered via twin Schottel SRE 360 EcoPeller azimuthing thrusters, supported by a Schottel Rim-Drive bow thruster and Quantum stabilizers. She can reach a top speed of over 15 knots and cruises efficiently at 11 knots, with a transoceanic range of 5,000 nautical miles. Further reducing her environmental footprint, Valor will also undergo testing using Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) biofuel, which can cut carbon emissions by up to 90%.

Looking Ahead to Monaco

While Valor won’t break into the YachtBuyer YB100 biggest yachts by gross tonnage, her impact lies elsewhere. With a powerful aesthetic, cutting-edge technology, and expedition credentials, she sets a benchmark for what custom yachting can deliver when form and function are treated with equal importance.

She is expected to be one of the headline yachts at the 2025 Monaco Yacht Show and a likely contender in upcoming industry awards. For now, all eyes are on her performance at sea.

According to YachtBuyer Market Watch and Intelligence, the world's biggest yacht database, Valor is one of four major Feadship builds scheduled for 2025 delivery. The Dutch shipyard’s current order book includes multiple 100-meter-plus projects, such as the 101-meter Moonrise (4,000 GT) and the 100-meter Feadship 824 (3,000 GT), alongside high-profile custom builds like the 71.76-meter Stella M and Valor herself. While Valor may not top the size rankings, her engineering and design place her firmly among the most advanced yachts in the new generation of Feadships.
