WATCH: The First 26m Bering 88 Motor Yacht Completes Sea Trial Performance Testing

Bering Yachts has released footage of a 26m Bering 88 undergoing sea trials, offering a closer look at the explorer yacht's long-range performance, fuel efficiency and handling under real-world conditions.

Built by Bering Yachts, the 26m Bering 88 is a 233GT steel explorer yacht featuring in-house exterior design, naval architecture and interior styling. Constructed with a steel hull and aluminium superstructure, the displacement yacht accommodates up to 10 guests across five cabins and has been developed for extended cruising, offering a range of 5,000 nautical miles at its 8.5-knot cruising speed.

Sea trials demonstrate the Bering 88's explorer credentials

The latest sea trials focused on evaluating the Bering 88's performance in realistic cruising conditions, with testing covering fuel consumption, engine loading and range calculations across multiple operating speeds. Conducted in moderate sea conditions with stabilisers engaged, the trials also provided an opportunity to assess the yacht's handling, directional stability and onboard comfort. Throughout the testing, the builder highlighted the advantages of the displacement hull, demonstrating how economical cruising speeds can significantly extend operational range.

A proven platform refined for modern cruising

Rather than introducing an entirely new platform, the motor yacht represents the continued evolution of a design philosophy that has shaped the builder's explorer yacht range for years. During the sea trials, Bering explained how the model builds on an established platform while incorporating updated styling and refinements that reflect the latest developments across the range. The yacht featured in the video was built to RINA charter-class standards for unrestricted charter operation, with future examples also available with CE Category A certification depending on owner requirements.

Outdoor living across multiple levels

The Bering 88's exterior has been arranged around a series of interconnected social spaces that maximise time spent outdoors during extended cruising. A spacious aft cockpit provides an alfresco dining area close to the water, while the upper aft deck incorporates a raised spa pool surrounded by lounge seating with uninterrupted views aft. Above, the flybridge creates another entertaining space beneath the hardtop, with additional seating and open-air relaxation areas, while generous walkaround side decks and a forward lounge encourage guests to move freely throughout the boat. Large expanses of glazing also strengthen the connection between the interior and exterior, ensuring the surrounding scenery remains a constant presence whether relaxing inside or on deck.

Contemporary interiors support extended time aboard

The Bering 88 accommodates up to 10 guests across five ensuite cabins, including a full-beam owner's suite, while separate quarters provide accommodation for five crew. Throughout the interior, the design adopts a contemporary, understated style, pairing warm wood finishes with soft neutral furnishings, integrated lighting and expansive glazing that draws natural light deep into the living spaces. The main saloon has been arranged around generous lounge seating and a formal dining area, creating a relaxed environment for extended cruising, while the spacious owner's suite continues the same refined aesthetic with extensive storage and a well-appointed ensuite bathroom. Rather than prioritising decorative features, the interior focuses on comfort, practicality and liveability for long periods aboard.

Long-range engineering prioritises efficiency over speed

The Bering 88 has been engineered around long-range passagemaking rather than outright performance. Powered by twin Cummins QSM11 diesel engines, the displacement yacht reaches a cruising speed of 8.5 knots and a top speed of 10.5 knots, while offering a maximum range of 5,000 nautical miles. During the sea trials, Bering evaluated fuel consumption and engine loading across a range of operating speeds, demonstrating how the yacht's displacement hull delivers efficient cruising over extended distances. The testing also highlighted the flexibility of operating on a single engine during longer passages, allowing owners to optimise fuel efficiency while reducing engine hours when conditions permit.
