52m Tankoa Superyacht Spirit Launched with Custom Vitruvius Design

Italian shipyard Tankoa Yachts has launched the 52m custom superyacht Spirit, the latest yacht to emerge from its Genoa facility and one of the yard's most personalized projects to date.

The launch took place on 11 July in the presence of the owners, invited guests, Tankoa's management team and the workforce behind the project. Following the traditional blessing and christening ceremony, Spirit entered the water ahead of the final commissioning phase, with sea trials now scheduled before delivery later this year.

A fully custom Vitruvius design

Unlike Tankoa's semi-custom series, Spirit was developed entirely around her owner's brief. The owner selected the Italian builder to bring a bespoke Vitruvius Yacht Design concept into reality, highlighting Tankoa's continued focus on individually commissioned projects.

The yacht features naval architecture and exterior styling by Vitruvius Yacht Design, led by Philippe Briand and Veerle Battiau, while Milan-based FM Architettura was responsible for the interior design. Designed around wellbeing, privacy and a stronger relationship with the sea, the 52m yacht emphasizes open spaces, natural light and uninterrupted views throughout.

Spirit perfectly demonstrates Tankoa's ability to transform an ambitious, highly bespoke vision into reality through exceptional craftsmanship and close collaboration with both the Owner, his design team and our team."

Commenting on the launch, Tankoa CEO Vincenzo Poerio said the project demonstrates the shipyard's ability to translate an owner's highly individual vision into a finished yacht through close collaboration between the owner, design team and shipyard.

Bright, open living throughout

A key feature of the main deck is the extensive use of glazing. A two-part glazed stern door, framed by fixed glass panels, opens the interior toward the aft deck, while full-height windows running along both sides of the motor yacht maximize daylight and provide panoramic views whether underway or at anchor.

FM Architettura has continued this approach inside, using a restrained palette of natural materials and soft finishes that places emphasis on space, light and the surrounding seascape rather than decorative detailing.

Accommodation is arranged for up to 12 guests across six cabins, with separate quarters for nine crew in five cabins.

Health and relaxation at the water's edge

One of Spirit's defining features is her beach club, which has been designed as a dedicated wellness area rather than simply a waterside lounge. The space incorporates a gym and spa that remain usable while cruising before opening directly onto an expansive aft terrace.

Fold-down side platforms widen the beach club when at anchor, while a stern plunge pool creates another focal point for guests moving between the sea, the fitness area and relaxation spaces.

The arrangement continues a wider trend among new superyachts, where health, recovery and outdoor living are becoming central elements of the onboard experience.

Hybrid propulsion and refined onboard comfort

Tankoa carried out an extensive optimization program throughout the yacht's engineering and construction, focusing on hull efficiency, weight distribution and overall performance.

Spirit is powered by a full hybrid propulsion system supplied by E-motion, pairing conventional diesel engines with electric motors and battery technology. The yacht has a reported top speed of 17 knots and a cruising speed of 15 knots. To further improve comfort underway, specialist firm Van Cappellen Consultancy supported the project with noise and vibration analysis during development.

Looking ahead for Tankoa

The launch of Spirit adds to an active period for Tankoa across both its custom and semi-custom portfolio. According to YachtBuyer MarketWatch, the world's largest yacht database, the Italian builder currently has 11 yachts either under construction or on order.

Among the largest is the 61m full-custom Project Dream, due for delivery in 2029. Estimated to have a gross tonnage of 1,300GT and developed around an owner's request for the volume, she will feature exterior design by Horacio Bozzo Design, interiors by Sinot Yacht Architecture & Design and a three-sided beach club with a dedicated wellness center. Earlier this year, the project reached its first major construction milestone with its traditional coin ceremony.

Tankoa also recently confirmed the sale of the 72m full-custom T720 Fenice, scheduled for delivery in 2030. The project will become one of the largest yachts ever built by the shipyard and features exterior design by Team for Design - Enrico Gobbi alongside interiors by Giorgio Cassetta.

Alongside these bespoke builds, Tankoa continues production of its semi-custom models, including the 55m T55 Sportiva and the 49.9m T500 Tethys explorer yacht, maintaining activity across multiple market segments as its forward order book develops.
