Seized 106m Lürssen Superyacht Amadea to Be Auctioned in U.S. on September 10

The U.S. government has announced that the 106-metre superyacht Amadea will be auctioned on September 10, marking the first stateside sale of a vessel tied to sanctions following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Currently lying in San Diego, the 348-foot Lürssen-built yacht was seized in May 2022 in Fiji and transported to the United States that summer.

Federal authorities linked the yacht to sanctioned Russian businessman Suleiman Kerimov, despite ongoing legal claims by former Rosneft executive Eduard Khudainatov, who insisted he was the rightful owner. A U.S. District Court ultimately ruled in March 2025 that Kerimov was the true beneficial owner, citing evidence that he and his family exclusively used and maintained the yacht. Multiple appeals have since been denied.

Amadea stands among the world’s largest superyachts, currently ranked 61st by gross tonnage in the YachtBuyer YB100, and 58th by length in the Top 100 length rankings. For context on how she compares to other massive yachts globally, see YachtBuyer’s feature on the World’s Biggest Yachts.

A Landmark Auction for an Ultra-Luxury Asset

Valued at approximately $230 million, Amadea has cost the U.S. government around $32 million in transport and maintenance since her seizure. The auction will be administered by National Marine Services, which specializes in maritime asset seizures. Fraser Yachts is also involved in promoting the sale.

To participate, bidders must place a $10 million deposit. Private inspections in San Diego are available by appointment.
