The launch took place at the builder’s Bremen site and coincided with Lürssen’s 150th anniversary, marking a fitting moment of celebration for the family-owned yard.
The build has remained largely under wraps since construction began in 2021. After her hull was launched and moved to a floating dock in July 2023, the full structure of the yacht came together at the Aumund site. The official launch now offers the first full view of her tiered exterior, striking profile, and unusual color palette. Her delivery is expected in autumn 2025.
A Sculpted Giant: Exterior and Design
At 134m (440 feet) in length and nearly 20m (65 feet) across the beam, Deep Blue is among the most voluminous yachts ever launched by Lürssen. Her design is defined by flowing decks, deep overhangs, and a reverse color scheme: a white hull below a metallic blue superstructure. The effect is distinctive, with the darker upper levels giving the motor yacht a top-weighted visual identity rarely seen at this scale.

The aft decks are stacked in elegant tiers, with wide sunloungers, seating zones, and a large curved infinity pool positioned at the upper level.

The foredeck is open and helipad-ready, while panoramic wraparound glazing emphasizes the sculptural lines of the superstructure. A black mast integrates domes and communication gear in a clean, minimal profile.
Notably, at the bow, Deep Blue features a prominent sculpted bowsprit. This feature may have been designed to extend her measured length, helping her place higher in the global Top 100 rankings by length. However, compared to the more integrated form seen on Lürssen’s Kismet, Deep Blue’s bowsprit feels more pronounced and stylistically separate. While it adds to the yacht’s dramatic presence, it slightly disrupts the otherwise smooth forward profile.

Observers have also noted similarities between Deep Blue and the 115m Ahpo, particularly in the tapered superstructure lines. However, Deep Blue’s dark upper decks and bold visual balance lend her a more dramatic edge.
What Powers Deep Blue
Beneath the sculpted exterior lies a modern diesel-electric propulsion setup. Eight MTU 16V 2000 M72 engines supply power to four electric motors, which drive twin azimuth thrusters. This configuration supports improved maneuverability, lower vibration, and greater efficiency across long passages - hallmarks of Lürssen’s latest approach to large-yacht engineering.

The yacht has a gross tonnage of 9,000GT, with a draught of 5 meters and a total installed power of 15,664hp (11,520kW). Teak decks, a beach club, spa, gym, cinema, elevator, and twin tender garages round out her amenities.
Top 100 Superyachts: Deep Blue Joins the Leaders
Deep Blue will rank 19th in the YachtBuyer YB100, the definitive league table of the world's biggest yachts by gross tonnage. That places her four places higher than her rank by length alone, where she sits at 23rd in the global Top 100.
This distinction highlights Deep Blue’s extraordinary volume - 9,000GT is more than many yachts over 140 meters. Among the yachts expected for delivery this year, she is the largest by both length and tonnage, outpacing other 2025 Lürssen deliveries, such as the 116m Project 13797 and the 114m Project Cosmos.
According to YachtBuyer MarketWatch Intelligence, the largest yacht database in the world, Lürssen currently has 14 yachts under construction, more than any other custom yacht builder globally. The yard’s continued dominance in the full-custom sector reflects its engineering scale and capacity to deliver yachts of this magnitude without compromising on detailing or complexity.
