Design & Construction
Designed around a full displacement wood hull and superstructure she features a 5.14m beam and a 1.8m draft. The yacht has an internal volume of 52 GT (Gross Tonnes).
The yacht was designed and constructed in compliance with the Lloyds Register technical standards.
Exterior Design
Atalanta J is unmistakably a classic Feadship. Her long, lean profile, varnished teak superstructure and traditional proportions belong to a period when yacht design placed equal emphasis on seaworthiness and elegance. Built in 1958 and extensively rebuilt between 2005 and 2008 at Dorr Lemmer in the Netherlands, she retains the character of the original yacht while benefiting from carefully integrated modern systems and upgrades.
The hull is a composite structure built around steel frames with moulded teak construction, while the teak upperworks and decks have undergone substantial restoration. The teak decks were replaced during the rebuild and continue to define the yacht's appearance, complemented by polished timber detailing, butterfly hatches, traditional bulwarks and classic deck hardware.
The foredeck serves as a surprisingly social space for a yacht of this era. A dining and seating area accommodates up to ten guests, while original features such as the rebuilt Thomas Reid windlass, ship's bell and admiral's anchors remain in place. A folding varnished mast carries a stabilising sail for passage making and preserves the yacht's period silhouette.
A covered aft deck forms the main outdoor entertaining area. Reconfigured during the Dorr Lemmer rebuild, it provides dining for up to 14 guests beneath a fixed awning and has become one of the yacht's most popular gathering spaces. Wide side decks and high bulwarks allow safe movement around the yacht, while an admiral's ladder on the starboard side provides elegant access from the dock.
The protected wheelhouse sits above the deck saloon and remains one of Atalanta J's defining spaces. Large windows provide excellent visibility, while the traditional helm position preserves much of the yacht's original atmosphere.
Interior Design
The interior balances historic craftsmanship with discreet modernisation. Rather than replacing original elements, successive owners chose to restore and preserve much of the yacht's period joinery, creating a character that would be difficult to replicate today.
The deck saloon is the heart of the yacht. Large windows fill the room with natural light, while period chairs, bookshelves, barometers and traditional detailing maintain a strong connection to the yacht's origins. A writing desk to starboard and panoramic views make this a comfortable space whether underway or at anchor.
Forward of the deck saloon is one of the most significant additions from the Dorr Lemmer rebuild. The lower saloon and dining area transformed the internal layout, creating a relaxed family space connected directly to the galley. Large overhead hatches, hull ports and generous headroom prevent the lower deck from feeling enclosed, while comfortable seating and a dining table for eight create a highly practical social area.
The galley spans the full beam and was completely renewed during the rebuild. Extensive Corian work surfaces, substantial refrigeration capacity and modern appliances make it capable of supporting extended cruising and family use. The arrangement encourages interaction between guests and crew while remaining highly functional.
Above, the wheelhouse preserves much of its traditional appearance. Original equipment remains alongside later navigation upgrades, creating a space that reflects the yacht's long history while remaining practical for modern operation.
Accommodation
Atalanta J accommodates up to eight guests in four cabins, with additional accommodation for up to two crew.
The owner's stateroom occupies the aft section of the accommodation deck and remains largely faithful to the yacht's original layout. Traditional timber finishes, generous storage and a private heads compartment create a comfortable owner's space that retains much of the atmosphere of the 1950s design.
Guest accommodation consists of three twin cabins, each fitted with wardrobes and individual wash basins. Much of the original cabinetry and detailing has been restored rather than replaced, preserving the yacht's authentic character. Shared bathroom arrangements follow the original family-oriented layout and include separate shower facilities.
Crew accommodation for one or two crew members is located forward with its own heads compartment and separate access. This area sits adjacent to the galley and provides direct access to the foredeck for efficient operation.
Performance & Capabilities
Powered by twin diesel Iveco (SM 2100) engines, motor yacht Atalanta J is capable of reaching a top speed of 15 knots, and comfortably cruises at 10 knots. With her 6,500 litre fuel tanks she has a maximum range of 2,000 nautical miles.
