Delivered by German shipyard Lloyd Werft in 2010 and extensively refitted in 2016, Luna was originally built for Roman Abramovich and later updated under new ownership to reflect a more refined aesthetic.
Donald Starkey’s Refined Vision
Renowned designer Donald Starkey was tasked with creating Luna’s interiors, steering away from glossy finishes in favor of a serene, tactile atmosphere. Central to his vision was the use of German oak, stained pale and wire-brushed to bring out its natural grain. These panels run throughout the yacht for sale, from the arched guest corridors that disguise watertight divisions to the custom flooring designed to emulate 17th-century timber beams.

The layout was modified during the build to include a separate dining room on the upper deck, cleverly divided from the lounge by a dual-sided fireplace. A full suite of upgrades during the 2016 refit ensured that Starkey’s calm and elegant aesthetic was retained while introducing new soft furnishings, upgraded fabrics in guest cabins, and thoughtful storage touches such as shoe drawers discreetly built into the beach club furniture.
Aesthetic, Function, and Finish
Exterior styling was the work of Newcruise’s Frank Neubelt, whose “boy cool” brief produced a yacht with both explorer grit and contemporary grace. Her long, low aft deck became a defining feature—prioritizing outdoor living and accommodating one of the largest swimming pools ever installed on a yacht at the time. The clean exterior lines were further enhanced during her refit when the entire hull was stripped back to bare metal and finished in a custom Luna Blue mirror-like paintwork, a painstaking process involving 20 tonnes of filler and eight months of labor.

Notable upgrades onboard the motor yacht for sale included the addition of fold-out terraces, Future Teak decking from Bolidt on the helipads, and a new raised pavilion on the aft deck with a large canopy, now a favorite spot for relaxation.

The bridge deck was also fitted with extendable windbreaks to improve the alfresco dining experience. Luna features two helipads - one forward and one aft - both of which can double as entertainment spaces.
Relaxation and Recreation On Board
Luna’s onboard amenities reflect her dual character as both luxury retreat and serious expedition platform. Guests can enjoy a large swimming pool, beach club, spa with sauna and steam bath, gym, beauty salon, and even a dancefloor.

The yacht also features a cinema, elevator, and an array of water toys housed in a dedicated tender garage. At anchor, underwater lights and a deck jacuzzi add to the nighttime ambiance.
Owner’s Suite and Guest Cabins
Despite her vast size, Luna is designed to accommodate 18 guests across nine spacious staterooms. Each guest suite reflects the yacht’s calm, luxurious ethos, and has been refreshed with updated AV systems and soft furnishings. The owner’s suite is particularly striking, featuring its own panoramic terrace and a roof that opens above the bed for stargazing.

Crew accommodation is extensive, housing up to 51 across well-appointed cabins, including a dedicated captain’s cabin. Crew spaces were also upgraded in the refit, with new upholstery, AV systems, and lighting, supporting both comfort and efficiency on long expeditions.
Engineering an Explorer
Engineered as a go-anywhere explorer, Luna is powered by a diesel-electric propulsion system delivering a total of 15,000 horsepower through twin azipods. She can reach a top speed of 22.5 knots and cruise efficiently at 16.8 knots, giving her a maximum range of 9,500 nautical miles. The system was fully overhauled during the refit, including removal and inspection of the propulsion shafts and renewal of seals and bearings.

Built to Lloyd’s Register standards with an Ice Class steel hull, Luna is capable of navigating shallow ice with ease. She is fitted with four stabilizers and advanced safety systems including full HD CCTV coverage, anti-drone technology, diver sonar sensors, and an anti-missile detection system. There is also a dedicated hospital onboard, a swimmer recovery platform, and a mini-submarine for underwater exploration.
