Now the latest example of the Nauta Air 110 series, the steel-hulled explorer was commissioned by experienced Australian yachtsmen Marcus and Caroline Blackmore, whose decades of offshore sailing played a central role in shaping the yacht's design and long-range cruising brief.
Built Around an Experienced Owner's Cruising Brief
Ammonite follows a proven Nauta Air 110 lineage first established by Sabai, the 33.4m CdM explorer delivered in 2018 and later recognized with multiple industry awards. Like that earlier yacht, Ammonite is built around long-range cruising, practical volume and the clean, restrained design language developed by Nauta Design.
For Marcus and Caroline Blackmore, that platform has been shaped by decades of bluewater experience. The couple has raced and cruised across remote regions aboard several Southern Wind sailing yachts, each also named Ammonite, giving the project a clear emphasis on reliability, autonomy and confidence at sea. The yacht also continues their long relationship with Nauta Design, which previously worked on their sailing yachts before adapting that same seafaring sensibility to a modern explorer platform.
Clean Italian Styling with Ocean-Going Intent
Both the exterior and interior of the superyacht were designed by Nauta Design, while naval architecture and engineering were developed by Hydro Tec, continuing a partnership responsible for several recent CdM explorer projects.
The 33m explorer yacht features a steel hull, aluminum superstructure and a clean, restrained profile that has become a defining characteristic of the Nauta Air range. Wide side decks, uncluttered exterior spaces and generous glazing support practical operation during extended voyages without compromising visibility or onboard comfort.
Rather than introducing a radically different aesthetic, the expedition yacht builds on an established platform developed for owners prioritizing range, efficiency and seaworthiness over high-speed cruising.
Relaxed Living Spaces with a Sailing Heritage
Nauta Design carried the owners' sailing background into the interior, creating what the studio describes as a relaxed "beach house" atmosphere using natural materials, soft textures and understated detailing. Accommodation on board the motor yacht is arranged for up to 10 guests across five cabins, with space for five crew in three cabins. Two additional Pullman berths provide flexibility for extended cruising.
According to Nauta Design, the owners requested spacious yet informal living areas that remain closely connected to the surrounding environment, an approach that echoes the design philosophy behind their previous sailing yachts while taking advantage of the greater internal volume offered by the explorer platform.
While the generous volumes of the Nauta Air 110 platform naturally provide an abundance of space, elegance has been achieved through a warm, welcoming and fresh ‘beach house’ atmosphere, featuring natural materials, soft textures and understated detailing.

Twin Caterpillar C18 ACERT Tier III engines produce a top speed of 13 knots, while a cruising speed of 10 knots delivers a transoceanic range of approximately 4,000 nautical miles. Nearly 43,000 litres of fuel capacity, combined with a full-load displacement of 250 tonnes, underline the yacht's focus on extended passages rather than outright speed.
Busy Year Continues for Cantiere delle Marche
Earlier this year CdM launched the 31m Mon Coeur, a highly customized CdM RJ102 developed around owner-led requirements, before delivering the Nauta Air explorer Tartaruga, another long-range platform designed by Nauta Design for Australian owner Marcus Blackmore. The yard also confirmed the sale of a fully custom CdM 45m explorer yacht designed by Giorgio M. Cassetta, with delivery scheduled for 2028.
According to YachtBuyer MarketWatch, the world's largest yacht database, Cantiere delle Marche currently has 12 yachts either in build or on order, including multiple examples of the forthcoming Flexplorer 165 and Deep Blue 141 explorer yacht series.
