Oceanco Confirms Contract to Build 130m Superyacht Project Y727

Oceanco has signed an agreement with Lloyd’s Register to classify and certify a new 130m flagship - superyacht Oceanco Y727 - the largest ever to be built by the Dutch shipyard.

The signing took place at the 2025 Monaco Yacht Show in the presence of the Yacht Club de Monaco, underscoring both the symbolic and practical importance of the partnership.

A New Chapter in a 38-Year Partnership

The agreement marks the latest milestone in a 38-year relationship between Oceanco and Lloyd’s Register. The two organizations have long worked together to ensure that Oceanco’s most ambitious projects meet the highest standards of safety and quality. In this case, Lloyd’s Register’s role may be particularly significant, as early illustrations hint at extensive glass features in the design - an element that would likely require careful classification to meet safety standards.

Marcel Onkenhout, CEO at Oceanco, described the project as more than just a record in size. “This vessel represents not only a leap in scale but also in ambition,” he said. “Oceanco has embarked on an ambitious next chapter, pushing further on design, innovation and sustainability. Collaborating with Lloyd’s Register ensures that our boldest visions are realized with uncompromising safety and quality.”

Oceanco Y727: The 130-Meter Flagship

At 130 meters (426.5 feet), the project will surpass all previous Oceanco yachts, including the 111-meter Leviathan, launched earlier this year and confirmed as the yacht of Oceanco shareholder and technologist Gabe Newell. While full specifications remain confidential, the shipyard has indicated that the yacht will advance industry standards in sustainability, technology, and operational range.

The scale and ambition of the motor yacht position it as a landmark within Oceanco’s portfolio, adding to the four 80-meter-plus yachts currently under construction at the yard, according to YachtBuyer Market Watch, the largest yacht database in the world.

Oceanco’s Expanding Horizon

The news comes during a transformative year for Oceanco. Earlier in 2025, the yard was acquired by Gabe Newell, who outlined his long-term vision for the brand during an interview at the Monaco Yacht Show. His involvement has reinforced Oceanco’s commitment to building yachts that embody advanced technology, sustainable design, and experiential ownership.

The new 130-meter yacht is set to embody these priorities, continuing the yard’s evolution from a specialist in large custom yachts to a builder of record-setting vessels that shape the future of the superyacht industry.

With Monaco once again acting as the center of the global yachting world, the signing highlighted both the legacy and forward momentum of Oceanco. For the shipyard, the 130-meter flagship represents not just the largest yacht in its history, but also a symbol of the direction in which it is heading - toward scale, technical sophistication, and long-range capability that reflects the changing demands of yacht ownership.
