WATCH: 117m Lürssen Boardwalk Emerges Through Heavy Fog During Sea Trials

The 117m superyacht Boardwalk has commenced sea trials in Germany, departing Lürssen’s build facilities under dense fog that has notabely reduced visibility across the river.

Built by Lürssen with exterior styling by Frank Woll Design and interiors by Amy Halffman Designs, the full custom project is progressing toward her scheduled 2026 delivery as final performance testing gets underway.

A Major Increase in Scale

Boardwalk replaces a 76.5m predecessor also named Boardwalk, delivered by Feadship in 2021. While the earlier yacht measured 1,900GT, the new Lürssen rises to 5,350GT - a near threefold increase in internal volume.

That jump in gross tonnage tells the real story. At 117m in length with a 17.2m beam, Boardwalk’s displacement steel hull and aluminum superstructure create a far larger platform in terms of guest circulation, technical capacity, and onboard amenities. Built to Lloyd’s Register standards, she features a bulbous bow hull form engineered for long range cruising and stable offshore performance.

Construction began with keel laying in August 2023. Over the following two years, her six deck structure took shape, culminating in her rollout from the construction shed late last year. Sea trials now assess propulsion, stabilization, and systems integration under real world conditions.

The 77m Feadship superyacht Boardwalk is on the market with Y.CO and is currently asking €165,000,000.

A Six Deck Exterior with Aviation at its Core

Boardwalk’s profile stretches across six decks, defined by long horizontal glazing bands and tiered transitions that create sheltered terraces without interrupting the yacht’s overall line.

A full beam touch and go helipad dominates the foredeck, while a second helipad sits aft on the upper deck. Dual aviation zones at this scale underline the yacht’s logistical capability, supporting guest transfers and operational flexibility without disrupting exterior leisure areas.

Outdoor living is arranged across multiple levels. On the main deck aft, a large rectangular pool is paired with a forward positioned spa pool integrated into its edge. Two decks above, the upper deck features a recessed dual pool installation formed by adjoining basins with stepped interiors. The layered approach to water features creates several distinct social environments rather than concentrating activity in one zone.

Wide open terraces, deep side decks, and carefully proportioned overhangs reinforce the yacht’s horizontal stance. Circular extensions along the upper side decks add subtle visual detail within an otherwise structured composition.

Interior Capability at 5,350GT

While detailed interior imagery remains limited, the 5,350GT platform signals substantial interior volume distributed across six decks. An elevator connects levels, supporting guest movement through the motor yacht’s full height.

Amenities listed include a spa, gym, beach club, and multiple pool zones, supported by at anchor and underway stabilizers. Underwater lights, satellite communications, and extensive AV systems point to a vessel designed for extended private cruising rather than occasional seasonal use.

The increase in scale compared to the previous Boardwalk creates opportunities for more expansive owner areas, larger guest suites, and enhanced crew and technical spaces. The volume shift from 1,900GT to 5,350GT represents a transformation in onboard capacity, not simply an increase in length.

Lineage and Ownership Continuity

Boardwalk continues a naming tradition that began with a series of Westport yachts before progressing to the 76.5m Feadship. Even the typography of the nameplates has reportedly remained consistent across the fleet, signaling continuity despite the jump in scale.

The move from a Northern European custom build at Feadship to a significantly larger project at Lürssen reflects an evolution in ambition. Where the earlier yacht established the name in the 70m segment, the new Boardwalk enters the upper tier of global private ownership.

Upon delivery in 2026, she is expected to secure a position within the YachtBuyer YB100 ranking, which measures the world’s largest yachts by gross tonnage rather than length. At 5,350GT, she will sit comfortably among the most substantial private vessels currently afloat.

Now underway on sea trials in Germany, Boardwalk enters the final phase before completion. Trials will confirm propulsion efficiency from her twin screw diesel setup, evaluate stabilization performance, and validate onboard systems before final outfitting work concludes.
