WATCH: Princess Yachts Launches First Fully Immersive 3D Configurator at 2025 Cannes Yachting Festival

Princess Yachts has unveiled what it calls the yacht industry’s first fully immersive 3D configurator, a digital platform designed to reshape the commissioning process.

The tool made its debut at the 2025 Cannes Yachting Festival and will also be shown at the 2025 Monaco Yacht Show before being introduced at the Plymouth shipyard and through its global distributor network.

A Step Beyond Traditional Commissioning

Commissioning a yacht has traditionally relied on lengthy conversations, 2D drawings, and a heavy dose of client imagination. The new configurator replaces that with an interactive, real-time model where owners can walk through configurable layouts spanning every deck.

This is [about] sitting down with the clients, understanding their options, understanding what it is, and giving instant clarity in terms of what it is they're buying. It will make the decision making process far easier.

Owners can adjust structural elements such as hardtops, hull colors, and deck layouts, while interiors can be refined with timber finishes, fabrics, and palettes. Beyond cosmetic choices, the configurator enables clients to explore physical changes to the motor yacht, offering a level of clarity previously unavailable.

From Automotive Inspiration to Yachting Complexity

During the Cannes press conference, Princess representatives highlighted how car configurators have existed for years, but adapting the concept to yachts posed far greater challenges. While cars typically offer a limited set of trim and color options, superyachts involve structural choices, personalization items, and spatial reconfigurations that cannot easily be conveyed through static visuals.

The Princess system expands beyond those limitations, creating a full 3D tour that allows users to toggle options on and off, compare alternative layouts, and see the impact of each decision instantly. This adaptation of an automotive idea to the more complex world of yachting underscores why Princess considers the tool an industry-first.

Bringing Yachts to Life

The configurator includes seven animated sequences designed to showcase onboard lifestyle. Clients can watch a bathing platform submerge into the sea, or a saloon television rise into place, offering a sense of life on board rather than just structure and finish. Each superyacht is presented within a cinematic digital environment, and clients can generate a personalized film of their configuration to keep or share.

The project has been developed in partnership with RealTime’s Paul McSweeney. They have created a tool designed not for casual browsing but for guided commissioning sessions. At launch, the system currently covers six models, including the Princess F58, Princess Y95, and Princess X90.

A simplified 2D version will eventually be available online, but the full 3D configurator will remain exclusive to one-on-one interactions, ensuring that clients receive personal guidance and instant clarity throughout the decision-making process. By the end of 2026, Princess expects its entire range to be integrated into the system.

Princess CEO Perspective

Will Green, CEO of Princess Yachts, described the launch as “a major milestone not only for Princess but for the yacht industry as a whole.”

“For the first time, clients can step inside a fully interactive representation of their yacht, tailoring every detail to their vision,” he said. “It is an inspiring, engaging, and enjoyable way to explore their yacht as they commission it.”

Visitors to Princess’ stand at the Cannes Yachting Festival (Vieux Port, Jetée 114) and the Monaco Yacht Show (Stand J01, Quai Jarlan) can experience the configurator first-hand. For Princess, the initiative represents not only a new digital tool but a shift in how commissioning is approached, marrying the craftsmanship of yachtbuilding with the clarity of immersive design technology.
