Design & Construction

Designed around a displacement w/ bulbous bow steel hull and an aluminium superstructure she features a 8.5m beam and a 3.07m draft. The yacht is built over 3 decks with an internal volume of 499 GT (Gross Tonnes).

The yacht was designed and constructed in compliance with the Lloyds Register technical standards. Launched in December 2014 this yacht undertook sea trials over the following months. She was delivered to her owners in February 2015.

Exterior Design

Asya is the second yacht in Heesen's restyled 47m full-displacement series, a platform that refined and modernised one of the Dutch builder's most successful designs. Delivered in 2015 and designed by Frank Laupman of Omega Architects, she combines traditional long-range cruising credentials with a cleaner and more contemporary profile than her predecessors.

The yacht's most recognisable feature is Heesen's signature pelican bow, which gives the forward sections a distinctive shape while helping improve seakeeping and efficiency. From the side, the profile is defined by long bands of dark glazing that run almost uninterrupted along the superstructure, visually lowering the yacht's height and creating a more streamlined appearance than many displacement yachts of similar volume.

As part of the redesign, Laupman increased the visual weight of the superstructure, enlarged the forward main deck windows and introduced flush-mounted exterior glazing. These changes give Asya a more confident presence on the water while allowing significantly more natural light into the interior. The triangular mast and enclosed rescue tender bay ahead of the wheelhouse further clean up the profile, removing visual clutter from the foredeck and contributing to the yacht's balanced proportions.

The exterior spaces are arranged around relaxed outdoor living. The main deck aft provides a large lounge area close to the water, while the upper deck terrace centres around alfresco dining with space for a full complement of guests. Above, the sundeck is the social heart of the yacht. A spa pool sits forward with panoramic views, while a bar, sunpads and seating areas make full use of the elevated position.

Built in steel with an aluminium superstructure, Asya was also modified to comply with LY3 and Maritime Labour Convention standards.

Asya's interior offers a blend of spaciousness, relaxation, and impeccable design.

Interior Design

The interior, created by Bannenberg & Rowell, takes a very different approach from many yachts of this era. Rather than relying on dramatic contrasts or lavish ornamentation, the design centres on simplicity, balance and carefully selected materials.

The design concept was inspired by the idea of harmony, drawing influence from figures such as Dieter Rams, Frank Lloyd Wright and Tadao Ando. The result is a calm, architectural interior built around texture, proportion and natural materials rather than decorative excess.

Throughout the yacht, gloss white lacquer surfaces sit alongside bleached wenge, silver-grey oak and rich Macassar ebony. Bronze accents and carefully integrated lighting add warmth without overwhelming the clean lines. The palette shifts between crisp whites and soft neutral tones, while occasional splashes of colour prevent the spaces from feeling clinical.

The main saloon is divided into three subtly connected zones. A library-inspired area framed by book niches leads into the principal lounge, where loose furniture arrangements create a relaxed residential feel. Forward, a formal dining area centres around a custom Makassar ebony table beneath carefully controlled lighting. Large windows on either side flood the room with natural light and maintain constant visual contact with the sea.

The upper saloon adopts a softer, less geometric layout. Curved sofas, a circular rug and a games table work with the shape of the superstructure to create a more informal atmosphere. This space can also transform into a cinema and conceals a bar and wine room behind hidden doors, allowing it to shift easily between daytime and evening use.

Across the yacht, textured leather wall panels, hand-worked timber surfaces and bespoke furniture create an interior that feels tailored rather than formulaic.

Accommodation

Asya accommodates up to 12 guests in five cabins and carries up to 10 crew.

The full-beam owner's suite occupies the prime position and includes a private study, king-size bed and generous ensuite bathroom. Large hull windows bring natural light deep into the space, while silver-grey oak, Macassar ebony and bespoke joinery create a calm and highly detailed environment. The suite feels more like a private apartment than a conventional yacht cabin.

Guest accommodation consists of two double cabins and two twin cabins, each fitted with additional Pullman berths. This arrangement allows the yacht to accommodate families comfortably while retaining flexibility for charter use. Every guest cabin follows the same design language as the owner's suite, creating a consistent atmosphere throughout the accommodation deck.

The ensuite bathrooms continue the material palette found elsewhere on board, pairing striped marbles with lacquered finishes and warm timber detailing. The result is a collection of guest spaces that feel cohesive rather than hierarchical, with no cabin appearing noticeably secondary.

Crew accommodation for up to 10 is arranged separately and was designed to provide more comfort and space than earlier yachts in the series.
