Design & Construction

Designed around a displacement steel hull and an aluminium superstructure she features a 19m beam and a 5.25m draft. The yacht is built over 5 decks with an internal volume of 7,247 GT (Gross Tonnes).

Construction started in mid 2020 with the keel laid under the project name 'Feadship 821'. The yacht was designed and constructed in compliance with the Lloyds Register technical standards. Launched in May 2024 this yacht undertook sea trials over the following months. She was delivered to her owners in May 2025.

Exterior Design

The Feadship Breakthrough is vast, but the profile has real control. RWD and Feadship have kept the decks long and low where they can, with a dark hull, soft white superstructure and a sweep of teak running through the aft terraces. The result is a yacht with five decks above the waterline and two below, yet the shape still feels drawn out rather than stacked.

The aft deck is the big visual statement. The 8.2m (26.9ft) glass-floored infinity pool sits at the centre of a huge teak beach terrace, with sunpads set around it and a separate hot tub tucked forward. From above, the pool reads like a skylight as much as a swimming area, as it filters light down into the beach club below. Curved external staircases, fold-down side platforms and wide stern terraces turn the aft end into a full waterside resort.

Breakthrough also has 14 balconies and seven unfolding platforms, so the hull is far more open than most yachts of this size. The beach club, side terraces and private deck areas all push guests closer to the sea. The sundeck has a forward hot tub, covered dining and lounge areas aft, plus space that can work as a helipad or sports deck.

The yacht’s 19m (62.3ft) beam gives these spaces real width. A steel displacement hull and aluminium superstructure support the scale, while the hydrogen fuel cell system is the technical headline. It gives Breakthrough a very different engineering story from the usual large diesel superyacht.

Breakthrough revolutionizes yacht design with its hydrogen fuel cell system for eco-friendly performance, a displacement steel hull, and an aluminum superstructure for enhanced stability and a broad 19-meter beam.

Interior Design

The interior has far more warmth than the exterior scale might suggest. The photos show pale woods, soft cream upholstery, rounded edges and rope-like textures, with dark blue details used sparingly for contrast. There is a relaxed coastal feel, but the scale is still enormous.

The main lounge is broad and open, with deep sofas, low tables and a wide opening to the aft deck. The ceiling has soft curves and wood framing rather than flat panels, while the back wall uses woven textures and timber bands to break up the height. It feels calm, but not bland. There is a lot going on if you pay attention.

The bar and dining area are much brighter, with pale stone counters, woven bar stools, backlit shelves and a clear sightline through to the water. The cinema takes a very different mood, with deep blue walls, curved light strips and proper tiered seating. It feels like a true private screening room rather than a lounge with a projector.

The Nemo lounge is one of the yacht’s best spaces. Semi-submerged windows sit below the waterline, so guests sit beside blue underwater views instead of looking across the surface. The room has a soft sofa, pale timber floor, rounded window frames and low lighting, making it feel more like an underwater snug than a technical showpiece.

The beach club is also a major interior space. Light comes through the pool above, casting a soft, moving pattern across the pale deck and furniture. Wide openings to the sea, loose lounge furniture, warm timber and shaded side terraces make it feel less like a garage conversion and more like a lower-deck living space.

Accommodation

Superyacht Breakthrough accommodates up to 30 guests across 12 cabins. The eight guest staterooms on the main deck can be paired into four VIP suites, so the layout can shift between higher guest numbers and larger private cabins.

The owner’s deck is closer to a private home than a suite. It includes two bedrooms, two bathrooms, dressing rooms, a living room, two offices with fireplaces and a private gym. A forward-facing Jacuzzi gives the owner a private open-air spot with wide views over the bow.

The guest areas follow the same soft, coastal interior style seen elsewhere on board, with pale timber, rounded forms, textured fabrics and large windows. The mix of cabins, private lounges, sea terraces and quiet corners helps break down the yacht’s huge scale, so guests are not all pushed into the same shared spaces.

Breakthrough also carries up to 44 crew, which matches the size and complexity of the yacht.

Performance & Capabilities

Breakthrough marks a significant evolution in the superyacht industry in its approach to environmental sustainability and innovative power solutions. This vessel is powered by a groundbreaking hydrogen fuel cell system, a first in the industry, offering a combustion-free method of generating electricity with only water as a byproduct. This system is emblematic of the yacht's commitment to eco-friendly operations, confronting the challenges of storing compressed liquid hydrogen below deck. The yacht's storage solution involves a double-walled cryogenic tank, able to contain 92 cubic meters or four tons of hydrogen, despite the challenge presented by the need for such a tank to be eight to ten times larger than the equivalent diesel storage.

This vessel's dedication to green operations is further exemplified by its approach to the hotel load, the most substantial contributor to a yacht's carbon footprint. By using the hydrogen fuel cells for electricity generation, Breakthrough significantly reduces the environmental impact associated with heating, air conditioning, and other onboard energy demands.

Breakthrough's propulsion system is further supported by additional fuel options, including Hydro-treated Vegetable Oil (HVO) and methanol. HVO serves as a biofuel alternative, producing 90% less pollution than traditional diesel. Methanol, stored under ambient conditions, offers a practical alternative fuel that can be converted to hydrogen onboard. This flexibility in fuel sources underscores the yacht's innovative approach to reducing its environmental impact.

Breakthrough houses two 900kW and three 2,500kW MTU generators (combusting HVO), alongside 16 185kW PowerCell H2 generators. Breakthrough boasts a significant range of 6,500 nautical miles at a cruising speed of 14 knots and a top speed of 17 knots, supported by a 19-meter beam, and Kongsberg Neptune 300 stabilizers, ensuring both efficiency and stability on the water.

Breakthrough features an 8.2-meter infinity pool, a semi-submerged Nemo lounge, a full owner's deck with luxurious amenities, and versatile accommodation for up to 30 guests, ensuring a blend of innovation and luxury.
