The award comes as Azimut introduces the Azimut Magellano 27M as the first model in the third generation of its Magellano crossover series. The yacht features exterior design by Jarkko Jämsén and interiors by AMDL CIRCLE, Michele De Lucchi and Davide Angeli, with its design centred on a new architectural approach to the relationship between the interior and the sea.
Magellano 27M recognised for design and innovation
Now in its seventh edition, the Design Innovation Award is promoted by Confindustria Nautica and I Saloni Nautici and recognises projects for research, innovation and design quality across the yachting sector.
The jury highlighted the yacht's departure from conventional styling, innovative layout, finishes and connection between its exterior and interior spaces. The result, according to the jury, gives the yacht a strong identity centred on life on board.
Jarkko Jämsén introduces a new exterior direction
Jämsén's exterior introduces clean surfaces and sculptural forms, with curved sections intended to interact with reflections from the sea, sky and changing light. A distinctive line described by the designer as the "loop" runs through the motor yacht's profile, while wooden louvers at the stern retain a signature element of the wider Magellano series.
The design marks a new chapter for the Magellano range, which Azimut first introduced in 2009 and has developed around its crossover approach to long-distance cruising.
A loggia over the sea
Inside, AMDL CIRCLE and Michele De Lucchi have conceived the crossover yacht's main deck as what Azimut calls a "loggia over the sea". Extensive glazing and wooden architectural elements inspired by Mediterranean pergolas and patios create a continuous relationship between the saloon, exterior and surrounding water.
Wood dominates the material palette, with light oak meeting walnut detailing across the main-deck saloon and owner's suite. Striped, engraved and sculpted finishes introduce different textures, while Japanese influences include side tables hand-chiselled using the traditional Naguri technique and HOSOO fabric woven in Kyoto.
Dual Mode hull and 24-knot performance
The Magellano 27M uses a Dual Mode hull developed by the Azimut|Benetti Group R&D Department with P.L. Ausonio Naval Architecture. Its double-chine form incorporates a vertical bow and central skeg, with the design intended to soften wave impact, improve directional stability and optimise fuel consumption across different cruising speeds.
Twin 1,650hp MAN V12 engines allow the yacht to cruise between 16 and 18 knots and exceed 24 knots when required. Azimut quotes a range of approximately 1,000 nautical miles at 12 knots.
Other award-winning Azimut yachts
